Study Indicates Blood Pressure Can Be Lower By Cutting Salt CHICAGO (UPI) Dutch doctors have linked a low-salt diet to lower blood pressure in humans as young as newborns in the first experimental evidence of such an association. Dr. Albert Hofman and colleagues at Erasmus University Medical School in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, conducted a six-month study of 476 newborn infants. "These findings support the view that sodium intake is causally related to the level of blood pressure." they said in the Journal of the American Medical Association. of sodium intake, starting very early in life, might perhaps contribute to prevention of high blood pressure and of rise of blood pressure with age." "Will I lose my figure?" This is an admirable and natural question. The answer is NO! But you will have to take a few precautions.

Naturally there will be a gain in weight because of the weight of the baby and its surroundings but you do not have to become obese. An average weight gain during pregnancy should be 16 to 18 pounds. Keeping your weight down not only saves your figure but makes pregnancy more comfortable and the delivery safer. You must eat for two, but not three or four! The expectant mother should have regular daily exercise. Most doctors recommend walking.

This helps control weight and improves general health. Keeping your weight down and indulging in regular exercise will act as preventative measures against developing stretch marks and varicose veins. The future mother should have little rest periods during the day with her feet elevated. This may be impossible for many working women. However, this is usually possible during the lunch hour.

If you work in an office that is not extremely formal there may be times when you can put your feet up on a chair seat, or have a high footstool under your desk. "The evidence consists of animal experiments and of comparisons of blood pressure populations differing in sodium intake.
