Benedict died at the home of his wife's parents, Three Rivers, Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock. A letter stated that Mr. Benedict was taken sick while attending church last Sunday morning and the trouble had developed into pneumonia. Mr.Benedict would have attained his sixtieth birthday May 8 next. He came to Fargo in 1882, and entered the service of the N.

P. He was a member of the Brotherhood of motive Engineers, a Scottish Rite Mason and an Odd Fellow. Besides his only son, John C. Benedict, who is also an engineer on the N. there survive liini, his wife and two ters.

He was a member of the First Methodist church of Fargo. During the past year or two Mr. Benedict has been living at Sanborn, having been assigned to the passenger run on the the Coopers town branch. Windsor Camp. Windsor Camp No.

W. Whipple returned a few days ago from a week's visit at lis and St. Paul. The Maccabees met last Saturday evening. The attendance was good.

Mr. T. Groven spent a few days in our city last week. He left tfor the Twin Cities on Monday. Miss Edith Conn left Sunday ing for Valley City.

She commenced a term of school a few miles south of Valley City last Monday. Our old townsman, Mr. "Jim" CoJ bean lost his whiskers while visiting in Jamestown last week. Better stay at home Jim. The Woodmen held their regular meeting on last Wednesday evening.

BUCHANAN. Everyone seems to have their share of colds. Mrs. H. E.

Jones spent the day in Buchanan last week, Wallace Hensel of Jamestown made a business trip to Buchanan last Tuesday. R. O. Taylor and son Earl went to Jamestown last Saturday. Frank Shryner is visiting his old home at Stevens Point, Mrs.

J. U. Cooper and son Raymond, returned on last rriday morning from Penn. where they spent a couple of months with Mrs. Cooper's mother.

Thomas Price of Pingree was ing in our city last week. The young people report a pleasant time at the dance at Lee's school house last Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. John Kurtz are happy over the arrival of a little son.

Quite a number of Woodman from the Buchanan lodge attended the organization of the lodge in Pingree last Thursday night. 8PIRITWOOD LAKK. Miss Lillian Lee who has been teaching school here, has returned to her home at Rogers. Ice cutting has been going on for some time in order to supply enay and Wimbledon for the summer. Mrs.

E. A. Collins is visiting at the lake, the guest of Mrs. H. LaBrash.

A basket social was held at the Fried school bouse last Friday for the purpoie of raising funds for a school library. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Arendt, who has been very ill. is ra. covering.

Word lias been received from Frank Genzel that they are well and ing their trip in New York. Neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LaBrasn last Thursday night and gave them a pleasant surprise. Dancing was dulged in and at midnight a teous supper was served by the ladies of the crowd.

They reluctantly parted about a. m. Little Henry Bonnett, who has been visiting his grandma, has returned to his home at the lake. PINGITKK. A telegram was received by VV.

A. Bartholomew conveying the sad news of the death of his sister Mrs. Latta, wife of Walter Latta at Model City near Niagara Falls, N. Y. on Feb.

4th. A child was born Jan. 17 from which sickness the mother did not recover. She leaves behind a husband and live children to mourn her loss. Mrs.

Latta was a daughter of W. M. olomow, and came to Pingree with her lather in the early eighties and tiled on a quarter section of land three miles north of Pingree. She after' wards married Walter Latta and they resided on ner place for a number of years. They have recently lived in the state of N.

The Modern Woodman of America organized a Camp here last Thursday with 27 members. There were live different Camps represented. Lunch was served at 3 o'clock in the morning. Rev E. S.

Shaw of Fargo will be in Pingree Feb. 12th to assist in a series special meetings. Meetings will mence Wednesday evening the 12th. It is to be hoped everyone will make an effort to attend the meetings. The Nix family showed here two nights last week and they are expected back again about Feb.

25. The tainment was good. EDMONDS. A camp of Modern Woodman of America was organized here last nesday night. State Deputy Grant and District Deputy Ellsworth were present, also the degree team from Melville.

Visitors from Kensal and Pingree helped the merry Woodmen to pass a pleasant and profitable evening. J. B. Wescom was a Jamestown visitor for several days. George Richmond the victim of that fake small-pox scare is able to be out again.

Mrs. F. A. Dodge is at home after spending ten days visiting her sister Miss Sampson at New Rockford. Our hustling merchants are daily receiving large consignments of goods for the spring trade.

Miss Maude of Bordulac was the guest of Mrs. Ed McCleary over Sunday. ElilDRDGE. A literary and social entertainment under the auspicus of tffe Eldrldge Tent No. 39 K.

O. T. was held in the school house Friday evening at which the following program was rendered: Music By String Band Reciations by Wm. Lawrence, Ray Cornwall, Flossie Luck. Dialogue entitled "The Intelligent Officer." Reciations by Ray Gilmore, Margaret Cornwall, Roy Lawrence, Irma McGillivray, H.

Clemens. Dr. Baldwin was called to the home 1 I of Theo. Weise whose daughter Emma being very sick was found to have pneumonia, while two or three of the others had bronchitis. Fred Ringuette has the mumps.

Miss Bole who is staying with Mrs. C. M. Fisher and attending city school has the mumps. The surprise party at Matt Vogel's was a charming success.

Miss Carrie Jones is recovering from an accidentally dislocated hip ceived some time ago. Feb. 4, 1902. Mr. Thompson of the tow mill has had to close down on occount of being unable to get wire for balling the duct.

The flour mill started up on day morning after a weeks lay off. Albert Larson, a membgr of the iirm of Berg Bros, and Co. of Cooperstown spent several days visiting his brother L. H. and other relatives here last week.

His former visit was four years ago and he expressed a' great deal of surprise at the. phenomenal growth of our town. Mr. Larson is a very pleasant gentleman and we vite him to visit us again. Rev.

Preston delivered a ance lecture in the Presbyterian church on Tuesday evening. perance lectures are not popular here. The H. N. Tucker Co, opens up their business in Kensal this week.

Mr. Sam Shnckley left on Wednesday to take charge of the business at that point. An infant son of H. Steele died on Sunday evening. The baby was only three days old.

Interment in Courtenay cemetery on Monday. Dr. Baldwin came up and removed quarantine on two families. A very learned gentleman here says he is too intelligent to believe there is anything in vaccination. The same party says its a principle in law that a man does not own a purchase until the last cent is paid on it.

Smart man that. Peirson Swanson are having their ice hauled from Spiritwood lake. Billy Clark has the contract and a fine quality of ice is being obtained. Mat Watson was down from Kensal doing some business as constable. Rich Merry and Cashier Heggeof Wimbledon drove up on Tuesday on business.

9. NOTICE OF MORTGAGE CLOSURE SALE. Notice is hereby given, that that certain mortgage, executed and delivered by James Hastings and Ida Jane Hastings, husband and wife, mortgagors, to Mary McCoy, mortgagee, dated the 14th day of Oenember, A. D. 1898, and filed for record in the office of the register of deeds of the County of Stutsman and State of North Dakota, on the 18th dav of December.

D. 1898, at 11 o'clock A. and recorded' In Book of mortgages, at pages 287-8 and assigned by said Mary McCov, gagee, to State Ioan Company, and which signment has been duly recorded in the office of the register of deeds of said Stutsman county, In Book of mortgages at page will be foreclosed by a sale of the mortgaged premises in such mortgage and hereinafter described, at the front door of the court house, at Jamestown, in the county of Stutsman and Uate of North Dakota, at the hour of 2 o'clock in the afternoon on the 15th day of March. A.

D. 1902, to satisfy the amount due upon sucli mortgage upon the day of sale: The premises described in such mortgage, and which will be sold to satisfy the same, are described as follows, to-wit: The southwest quarter of section twenty-two, 22 in township one hundred and forty-three (143) north, of range sixty-live (66) west man county.
