Marion trailed only 14-7 midway of the final frame when sophomore linebacker Ralph Robinson intercepted quarterback Ken Shackleford's aerial. He returned it 28 yards to the MC 35 and the winners added an insurance touchdown. Marion coach Lewis Cook reported, "We were moving when they made the interception but that is just one of those things.

The kids played real well and I was proud of all of them." He added, "We got behind early but we fought back. (AP) Dale Patton tied a school record by running for a pair of touchdowns as Eastern Kentucky dumped Akron 35-14 in college football Saturday. Patton scored twice on one-yard runs in the first period, running his touchdown total for the season to 13 to tie the Eastern Kentucky touchdown record set in 1973 by Alfred Thompson.

The two touchdowns by Patton, who rushed for 98 yards in 20 carries, were all Eastern needed as the Colonels rolled to their seventh win in nine starts. Akron slipped to 5-5. Stan Mitchell, Patton's backfield mate, scored on a threeyard run and added 92 yards in 16 carries. Eastern drove 68 yards for its first score after taking the opening kickoff. Quarterback Chris Isaac set up the score on a 57-yard pass play to Steve Parrish that carried the ball to Akron's 13.

Patton scored three plays later. "COME SyGET IT" ABC GRILL OPENS AT 6 A.M. FOR BREAKFAST! Start the day off right with a better breakfast at ABC Grill. The Proof is in the Postmark! Franklin went in front early on a touchdown run by Gordon Lunceford but the Knights tied the game on a five-yard jaunt by Shackleford. However, Lunceford, who finished the night with 149 yards on 27 carries, tallied again to give Franklin a 14-7 halftime edge. The score stayed that way until the final minutes but Cook pointed out, "We had two' or three other drives but we were always stopped.

We could never get that second touchdown." The Marion mentor praised Glen Spalding for his offensive and defensive play and also pointed out that Shackleford had a good game. He told, "After the game I told the kids that I was proud of all of them. And I meant that." Marion closed the season with a 7-5 mark. Nov. 17-18 Jeff Co AAAA Trinity (10-2) vs.
