Gibson, 85, who retired in 1973 as head of the emergency department at Suburban General Hospital in Bellevue, died Friday at the hospital of a stroke. A former Avalon resident, she had resided for the past eight years at the Eastern Star House in Ross. She was a registered nurse and the oldest surviving graduate of the Suburban General Hospital School of Nursing. She served 14 years as the nurse at Bellevue High School, now part of the Northgate School District, and taught nursing classes for the local Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of Northmin-ster Presbyterian Church, Bellevue.

Surviving are a sister, Sarah S. Gildersleeve, of Bellevue; and five nieces and nephews. Friends are being received from noon to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, 529 California Avalon, where services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless. The family suggests memorial contributions to Suburban General Hospital. ter's degree from Pitt's School of- Retailing. Albert Barnes Smith president of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg from its founding in 1963 until 1980, died of cancer last night at his home in Greensburg. He was 75. He began his career at Pitt in 1939 in the Graduate School of Retailing, later becoming dean of the school. He also served as director of development at Pitt and was a special assistant to then-Chancellor Edward Litchfield before going to Pitt-Greensburg. After retiring from Pitt-Greensburg, he held the title of president emeritus.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg, and was formerly secretary and assistant treasurer of the board of trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh. He was a former member of the Greensburg Rotary Club, United Way Board, Historical Society and Central Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce. Zambia death toll from cholera 465 LUSAKA, Zambia The death toll from cholera in Zambia has climbed from 400 to 465, out of 2,949 cases reported, the official Zambia National Broadcasting Corp. said yesterday.

Health Minister Jeremiah Chi-jikwa was quoted by ZNBC as saying the disease spread to seven of Zambia's nine provinces. Eugene J. Korbra West Homestead police officer Eugene J. Korbra, 52, died yesterday at Jefferson Hospital following a heart attack. Mr.

Korbra had been a patrolman in West Homestead, where he also lived, for 21 years. He was a volunteer with the West Homestead Fire Company and he belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police and Holy Angels Catholic Church in Hays. He is survived by his wife, Donna Heim Korbra; two sons, Eugene "Gino" and Simion "Sam," and a daughter, Tiffany Korbra, all at home; a brother, Stanley Kotobaro of the North Hills; and a sister, Doreen Dixon of South Park. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Mount Washington resident was a nurse at Magee-Womens Hospital in the 1930s, then worked in the Mount Washington office of her husband, the late Dr. Joseph Gilmartin. She was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church, Mount Washington, and its women's group; the Mount Washington Womens Club; the Mercy Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and the American Association of Retired Persons. Mrs.

Gilmartin is survived by a son, J. Barry; a sister, Anna Mary Heyl, both of Mount Washington, and five grandchildren. 1 Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Brusco-Falvo Funeral Dr. Morgan F.

Taylor Dr. Morgan F. Taylor, 77, past resident and past chairman of the oard of the Beaver County Medical Society, died yesterday of a heart attack at his home in Brighton, Beaver County. Before his retirement in 1984, Dr. Taylor was a partner in Urological Associates of Beaver Valley and was on staff at Aliquippa Hospital and The Medical Center, Beaver.

He was past president of the Pittsburgh Urological Society, past president of staff for the former Rochester Hospital, and past editor of the Beaver County Medical Society bulletin. He is survived by his wife, Marion; three daughters, Joan Parris of Beaver Falls, Jean Barber of Beaver and Paula Colaizzi of East Palestine, Ohio; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at First Presbyterian Church, College Avenue, Beaver.

Park Harrisburg, 17105-9859; The Medical Center, Beaver, 1000 Dutch Ridge Cardinal Szoka leaves hospital DETROIT (AP) Cardinal Edmund Szoka, who underwent surgery earlier this month to remove a cancerous nodule from his right lung, was released from the hospital yesterday. Szoka, 63, the former Detroit prelate, underwent surgery Feb. 6 at Providence Hospital in suburban Southfield after a routine X-ray revealed the quarter-inch nodule.

Doctors said he will not need chemotherapy or medication. Szoka led the 1.5-million member archdiocese from 1981 to 1990, when Pope John Paul II named him to head the Vatican's Prefecture for Economic Affairs. He was named to the college of cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church in May 1988. Szoka will recuperate for about a month in Detroit before returning to Rome. -Vfh Deaths elsewhere Stanley E.
