gym. They were so right, as Coach Jack Nay's Woodmen recorded a 74-66 triumph over previously undefeated Mooresville. Greenwood's win was sweet, as the Woodmen took over first place in the Mid-State Conference with a sparkling 5-0 record. Mooresville absorbed its first loss after 10 straight wins and state-wide publicity. Greenwood's win was even more notable since the Woodmen experienced an 18-day layoff, yet were sharp.

Greenwood how has an 8-1 record, tops in the county. Did Good Job "I thought the boys did a good job, especially since we had the long layoff. We played well until late in the game, when we made some unnecessary errors," Coach Nay commented. Ron Cooper led the scoring parade for the happy winners with 24 points. Three other G.H.S.

players hit double figures. John Swank scored 16 points and did a good defensive job on Ric Gunnel of Mooresville. Irvin Slusher and Jim Anthony scored 13 points. Phil Winning just missed double figures, with eight points. Outside Shooters Coach Nay's tough shooters, especially effective from the outside, hit for .500 in the first half with 18 for 36 field goal attempts.

Greenwood hit on 29 of 66 attempts and the losers hit on 25 of 62. Cooper made 10 field goats in 23 tries, a good percentage. Greenwood managed only a 21-20 first quarter score but rolled to a 46-37 halftime lead. Woodmen led 61-50 at the three-quarter mark. Held To 13 Gunnell, who often hits 20 points, was held to 13 by Swank.

Bruce Strack did an excellent job with 26 points. Carl Archer hit for 13 and Harris made nine points. Greenwood out-rebounded the visitors, 36-31. It was a good overall team effort that turned the tide for the Woodmen. Mooresville hits much from underneath.

The Woodmen proved they are a team to reckon with. Greenwood hosts Center Grove Trojans Friday, Jan. 8, in the G.H.S. gym. Game time is 8 p.m.

Top Scorers Spicer and Moore are the leading Franklin scorers.

Spicer has scored 20 or more points in seven games and Moore turned the trict four times. Moore hit for 27 against Columbus and Spicer had a 24-point effort against Seymour's Owls. CFranklin has a 5-5 record and has faced taller teams usually. The Cubs do not possess a strong "bench" and this has hurt them considerably. When starters get in foul trouble or are injured, Coach Ted Server is hard-pressed for replacements.
