District Attorney Elvin Edwards of Nassau County said neither man was under suspicion, but he believes they may be valuable in tracing the girl's whereabouts during the time Just before her body was washed ashoro at Long Beach. The district attorney added that the finding of veronal in Starr body strengthened his belief she had been murdered, and added he might submit additional evidence to the grand jury.

Stanley E. Faithfull, Starr's stepfather, also clung to the murder theory, and insisted, in an exclusive statement to the United Press, that a prominent man had debauched the girl at an early age, then made a $20,000 settlement. From Boston came word that Andrew J. Peters, former Mayor, whose name has been mysteriously brought into the investigation, was willing to co-operate with Edwards. Alexander Whiteside, attorney, issued a statement in Peters' behalf, denying the former Mayor had any information and insisting there never had been improper relations between Peters and Starr.
