JEFFERSON CITY, Jan. 1 A Trw schedule of rates for workman's compensation insurance in Missouri, providing an average reduction of 14.3 per cent for about per cent of the 650 classifications of risks, was approved yesterday afternoon by State Insurance Superintendent Owen G. Jackson.

The new schedule is ef-Xeetive at once. jThe new rates will apply to insurance covering claims for injury osiUeath of workmen subject to workmen's compensation law. About 100 companies write such insurance in the state. Under the law the rates are revised aahually. 'Rate experts of the division of Insurance said they could not estimate with certainty the effect in dollars of the reduction for employers.

It was said, however, that th? reduction probably would total between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 a yiar. Premiums paid on such insurance in 1947 totaled about jfhe rates, which vary from a fSwcents to about $20 on the $100 uriK of the employer's payroll arc based on hazard or loss experience for the particular classification of employment. Actual reductions, it was said, vary from 1 per cent to 30 per cetit. Rate increases for a few classifications which were advanced ranged from 1 per cent to 20 per cent. IThe National Council on Compensation Insurance, central rating agency for companies writing such insurance, submitted a new schedule several weeks ago, proposing a reduction averaging about 163 per cent, based on volume of premiums paid.

After a hearing last Dec. 7 Jackson asked the companies to file an amended schedule, making certain adjustments.
