5. 2A The Paris News, July 8.. 1938 For Deaths McCann funeral Funeral services for Etta Pearl McCann of Lake Worth were conducted Thursday at the Forest Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frankie Dawes officiating. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home made burial in Forest Chapel Cemetery.

Bearers were Ronnie Young, Larry McCann, Jack Baker, Thomas Graves, Brian Baker and John Coontz. Mrs. McCann died Monday in Fort Worth. Bill Nance HUGO, Okla. Bill Nance, 78.

of Kress, Texas, died Wednesday, July 6, at Central Plains Hospital, Plainview. Services were held in the Lemons Memorial Chapel in Plainview at 10 a.m. Friday. Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. al Grant Cemetery.

LamptonMills and Coffey has charge of local arrangements. Nance was born July 14. 1909. in Atoka, Okla. He lived in Grant, until moving to Plainview in 1950.

He retired in 1986 a and moved to Kress. He was a member of the Aiken Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Gary Nance of Arlington, Texas; one daughter. Mrs. Jim (Murleen) Braddock of Kress; four grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.

She married Roy Ferguson on June 10, 1957, in Paris. Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Sue Eagon of Soper, Yvonne Burchfield of Soper and Kay Thompson of Hugo; one brother, Ralph Holman of Paso Robles. one sister. died at Katy Nursing Home Thursday. July 7. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at Meadowbrook by Gene Roden's Sons, Directors Funerals. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m.

to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dicken was born June 30. 1901, in Lamar County, a daughter of A.P.

and Maude Grigsby Medlock. She married the Rev. Elmer Dicken. on Dec. 23, 1922.

He died in 1967. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Billie Jo) Browning of Katy and Mrs. Arnold (Frances) Rosenthal of Rolling Meadows, one son, Harold Dicken of Crane; and one sister, Irene Jones of Paris. James David Durham Sr.

James David Durham 77, 1630 Pine Bluff, died in Longview Regional Hospital at 3 a.m. Friday, July 8. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday. July 9.

28. 1910, in Biardstown, a son of W.A. and Neva Ingram' Durham. He atlended Biardstown schools and married Ruby Bartlett on Aug. 5.

1940. He worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. from 1934 until retiring in 1976 as sales manager. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Dr.

A.B. White's Sunday School Class and a member of the. Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a former member of the Odd Fellows and the American Legion. Surviving are his wife; one daughter.

On Oct. 7. 1933. she married Marlin E. Bettes.

Surviving are her husband: her mother. who lives in Cooper: two daughters. Patsy Ruth West of Diana and Marlia Jean Harris of Paris: one brother, Joe Pickens of Cooper; two sisters. Palsy Barton of Cooper and Dorice White of Dallas: four grandchildren: and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.

66. Rt. 1, Annona, died Friday, July 8. at McCuistion Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m.

Saturday. July 9. in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Boxelder Cemetery. Mr.

Peck was born in Annona Nov. 25. 1921, a son of Seymour and Lizzic Belle Peek. He married llazel Nicks and was a Baptist. He served in the Police Roundup Fire razes Blossom home A Blossom residence was destroyed by fire early this morning.

Officials placed the loss at $30,000. Firefighters from Reno responded at 2:30 a.m. to the Larry May residence, 415 W. Division, to find the home engulfed in flames. No one was inside the residence at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A 22-YEAR-OLD Paris woman told police someone driving a 1988 Ford pickup truck attempted to run over her and her 11-month-old daughter as they tried to cross a street Thursday in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Drive. A 1981 CHEVY Citation was reported stolen Thursday from a residence in the 1700 block of West Houston Street. Bronze in color and bearing Texas license plates YBF-126, the vehicle was valued at $1,800. A 45-YEAR-OLD Sapulpa, truck driver reported the theft overnight Wednesday of a 40-channel citizen's band radio and 15 chains from his rig parked at a motel in the 3500 block of Loop 286 NE.

The stolen items were valued at $965. Paris police also reported the following activity: Two burglaries of habitations, three thefts, attempted burglary of a building, civil disturbance, suspicious person, attempted theft, animal complaint and two criminal mischiefs. BURGLARY OF AN Addison residence reported to Lamar County Sheriff's authorities Thursday involved the theft of numerous items valued at a combined $1,480. A 24-YEAR-OLD woman was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital Thursday after she swallowed 20 aspirin.

She was admitted in good condition. Two persons indicted last week on separate felony offenses were arrested on warrants Thursday afternoon by sheriff's deputies and placed in jail pending arraignment. Sheriff's department also reported the following activity: Suspicious vehicle east of Blossom, burglary alarm at the Roxton bank, prowler call off U.S. Highway 271 North and the theft of a fourwheeler in Blossom. Deputies served eight civil citations Thursday.

Five inmates housed at the Upshur County Jail were to be returned today to Lamar County in an effort to reduce the number of those being housed there. As of 8 a.m. Friday there were 73 inmates in the Lamar County Jail, 17 of those assigned to Upshur County. He served four years in the Air Force during World War II. He married Myrna McEwin on April 5. 1953. in Paris. He was retired from the insurance and grocery He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the board of stewards and had served on the Paris and Reno schools board.

He was a past president of the Breakfast Optimist Club and coached Little League baseball for 13 years. He was a former president of Lamar County Unit of American Cancer Socicty. He was a former member of the Paris Jaycees. Lions Club and was a member of the Masonic lodge and the Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife: two daughters, Melinda Goin of Mcsquite and Jane Anne Mullane of Austin; one son.

"They've got two steel beams across them and about 20 or 30 tons of concrete" on them, Economedes said. Authorities fear that dozens of people may still be trapped.
