After one line play, Nack Ederer passed to Paul Crowley, who scored the play covering 21 yards. Again the struck, moving to the Colgate two before losing the ball and again taking over on the Raider 26 following a punt. On four plays Harvard reached the Colgate two and this time the third Jack Culver, scored. Suddenly Colgate awrakened. Bob Schirmer reeled off 50 yards to the Harvard 25 as the period ended.

The charged-up a a boasting perhanps one of the best teams in their history, battled valiantly after jumping off to a quick 7-0 lead. Oklahoma hammered Kansas into near helplessness as the game wore into the final periods. Oklahoma rolled along the ground and flashed through the air with deadly method.

18 (Special) Two freshmen played prominent roles here today in leading West Virginia to a 31-13 victory over Washington Lee. A crowd of 4600 saw this football feature of Cumberland's industrial exposition. Quarterback Freddy Wyant, yearling, from Weston, W. Va.t scored two touchdowns and defensive Halfback Joe Marconi of Fredericktown, tallied a third and set the stage for the other Mountaineer score. Marconi also killed an early bid by the Generals with a pass Interception.

Washington Lee's two touchdowns came in the first and last quarters, the-first on a 49-yard end sweep to tie the score at 6-6 and the second on a pass following recovery of a fumble. The Mountaineers outplayed the Generals from start to finish, showing a 16-to-13 edge in first downs and a net yardage of 325 to 240. West Virginia marched 95 yards in 10 days for its first touchdown late in the opening period, Wyant scoring from one yard out after Marconi had intercepted a pass on his own five. Bill Scott's Interception of a Mountaineer aerial on West Virginia's 49 paved the way for the Generals' tying TD shortly afterward. West Virginia scored twice in the second quarter. Birmingham said today no inquest would be necessary in the death of Chester Barnard, 58, assistant football coach at the Rolla School of Mines whose body was found in the Gasconade River here Thursday. Birmingham said Barnard plunged into the river after writing a note to his wife which said he intended to take his life.

Barnard joined the Rolla coaching staff in 1944 after 17 years as football coach at Kalamazoo (Mich.) College. 18 (UP) Dartmouth came out of the winless woods today by defeating Rutgers, 29-20. With a crowd of 8000 fans looking on, Dartmouth snapped a three-game losing skein and sent the injury-riddled and fumbling New Jerseyites home still seek ing their first win after four games. Start with Safety In the first period Dartmouth took advantage of the first Rutgers error to score a safety. Steve Johnson of Rutgers picked up a stray handoff fumble in his own end zone but was tackled by half a dozen on-rushing Dart mouth linemen.
