Arizona 47-19 SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) Quarterback Dennis Sproul powered 20th-ranked Arizona State to a 47-19 Western Athletic Conference triumph over Utah Saturday by running for two touchdowns and throwing a pair of TD bombs to John Jefferson. Sproul rushed for 52 yards and hit 12 of 17 passes for another 290 yards including bombs of 61 and 91 yards to Jefferson. Down 14-7 in the third quarter, Woods found flanker Joe Stewart streaking down the right sideline with a 23-yard touchdown pass. Jeff Brock-hause drilled the point after to knot the score. The Tigers started a 57-yard drive late in the third period that ended in the winning touchdown.

Woods, who racked up 140 yards in the game, threw an eight-yard bullet pass into the Colorado end zone to tight end Kelly Win-slow. Brockhause's kick made it 21-14. The Tigers wrapped up the game with a drive down to Colorado's 31, where Jeff Brockliause booted a 48-yard field goal with only 45 seconds left in the game. Colorado scored its two touchdowns in the first quarter on a 1-yard dive over the center by quarterback Jeff Knapple, and a 52-yard pass to split end Steve Gaunty. Colorado's first touchdown drive began when the Buffs recovered a Missouri fumble.

(UPI) Texas' Jones boys-Johnny "Ham" and Johnny scored all three touchdowns and one of the stingest defenses of the country recorded its third shutout of the year Saturday to send the No. 1 ranked Longhorns rolling past Texas Tech 26-0. Johnny "Lam" Jones turned on his Olympic gold medal speed to- run under a 57-yard touchdown throw from Randy McEachern in the first period and Johnny "Ham" Jones scored on second half runs of 3 and 11 yards in helping the Longhorns to record their seventh victory without a loss. Russell Erxleben kicked a 60-yard field goal late in the second quarter to demoralize the 13th-ranked Red Raiders, who had consistently threatened to tie the game in the second period only to come up empty.

Erxleben added a 35-yard field joal with less than five minutes to play. The victory kept Texas tied with Texas atop the Southwest Conference with a 4-0 mark while the Red Raiders fell to 5-2 for the season and 2-2 in SWC play. Texas Tech, playing excellent defense itself, slowed down Longhorn fullback Earl Campbell, but the big bruiser still gained 116 yards on 27 carries to advance his SWC' career record to 3,714 yards. Tony Franklin kicked a 54-yard field goal with three minutes to play to ice the Aggies' fifth straight victory over the Mustangs. (UPI) Running back Alois Blackwell led a strong Houston running attack with 115 yards while scoring three touchdowns and Willis Adams added two scoring receptions to power the Houston Cougars to a 42-14 victory over Texas Christian Saturday in Southwest Conference play. The triumph was Houston's first since learning of a one-year NCAA probation three weeks ago, and gives the Cougars a 4-3 season record and 2-2 SWC mark.

TCU dropped to 2-4 and 1-3 in conference and nad its two-game winning streak broken. Blackwell, the SWC's third leading rusher last season, gained his 115 yards on 23 carries and Dyral Thomas added 64 yards on 14 carries. Arkansas, 30-7 HOUSTON (UPI) Michael Forrest scored touchdowns of 23 and two yards and Steve Little kicked three field goals to lead the No. 7 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks to an easy 30-7 victory over hapless Rice. The triumph left the Razorbacks 6-1 for the season and 3-1 in Jhe Southwest Conference.
