The Paris News, Nov. 18, 1983 People ONASSIS REX HARRISON Duane Allen establishes ETSU scholarship OOMMRRflR Tpvac A rfnnatinn Allen received a bachelor of snienpA Hooroo in mill COMMERCE, Texas A donation from Oak Ridge Boys lead singer and president Duane Allen and his wife Nora is among the gifts amounting to $20,000 recently added to East Texas State University scholarship funds, according to Gene Lockhart, ETSl) director of development. Duane Allen, a former resident of Lamar County, and his wife, Nora Lee, established a $5,000 scholarship in his name during homecoming ceremonies at ETSU when he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus. Interest from the fund will provide scholarships for entering freshmen with scores of 22 or more on the American College Test. Allen received a bachelor of science decree in music from ETSU in 1965.

Judge Sue Goolsby of Dallas contributed $10,000 to the A.C. "Buck" Hughes Scholarship Fund in Agriculture. Ms. Goolsby was a sister-in-law of the late Hughes, a member of the ETSU agriculture faculty for 33 years and head of the department of agriculture for 22 years. In making her contribution, Ms.

Goolsby wrote, "As we all know, Buck gave of himself in every way possible to see that young men and women who directed themselves to careers in agriculture achieved their goals and contributed to our society in the American way. That is the reason for this scholarship to insure that strong belief in the youth and principles of British fashion model new Miss World our society will be on-going and suffer as little detriment or dimunition as possible because of his death." Mr. and Mrs. Staley McBrayer of Fort Worth added $5,000 to the McBrayer Scholarship Fund for students in journalism and graphic arts, raising that endowment to $15,000.
