Wednesday, Feb. 11,1981 Kokomo (Ind.) Tribune 13 Heartbreak Cake will make Valentine's Day happy event With Saturday just a heartbeat away, it is time to get bustling about. Make the most of a sentimental Valentine's Day with your own whimsical Heartbreak Cake, that makes the most of ingredients you probably have on hand. If your heart isn't broken, don't break your cake. Just serve it intact. There is nothing complicated about making this show-off centerpiece. It makes life easy by using a bevy of convenient food products: fruit flavor gelatin, thawed frozen whipped topping and even packaged cake mix — waiting to come together. Cherry flavor gelatin adds moistness and fruity flavor to the cake and combines with whipped topping in the fluffy frosting. All you have to do to create the cake's Interior streaked effect is gently poke warm-from-the-oven cake layers with a fork, then pour the Win coldest of hearts with Heartbreak Cake (Industry photo) mixture of fruit flavor gelatin and cherry liqueur over all. It seeps into the cake to provide bursts of flavor for every bite. You can cut the heart shapes easily without the use of special baking pans. Using cardboard, draw a heart and cut out, then follow this guideline in trimming away the cake. Save the trimmings to use in layered desserts later. You can freeze them if you like. Keep your heart whole if you like, or make a jagged cut into the cake when you've finished, to make a conversation piece. The garnish of hand-dipped maraschino cherries will go over big with the chocolate lovers in your life.
