He was a retired groceryman and had owned grocery stores in Diming, Silver City and Bayard, N.M., and in Lancaster. He was born May 23, 1890, in Clay County and was a son of the late Bill and Elizabeth Mosley Powell.

He belonged to Lancaster Church of God and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by a son, Monroe Powell and a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Ann) Southers. Survivors include his wife, Susie Pennington Powell; two sons, Morgan T. of Lancaster and Edd Powell of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Mrs.

Link (Myrtle) Stump of Lancaster and Mrs. Jim (Kate) Brown of El Paso; 13 grandchildren and-27 7 greatgrandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Arlis Luttrell and Lloyd Harris.

Burial will be in Fogertown Cemetery in Clay County. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. Austin Barnes LEXINGTON Austin Barnes, 70, of 643 Bellaire Lexington, father of Martha Lee Warner of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday at Central Baptist Hospital here. Singleton, who died April 25, Mrs. Singleton was the daughter of the late Kelsey and Mary Ann Heller. She was born July 16, 1930. Mrs. Singleton was employed by Southern Optical Company in Louisville.

She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, Marvin E. Singleton Jr. of Louisville; three daughters, Tina Lunsforth and Ann Singleton, both of Louisville, and Patsy Parrotte of Murray, and four grandchildren.

2 indicted ed by Garrard jury LANCASTER The Garrard Grand Jury returned two indictments Monday during the opening day of circuit court. Kenneth Hacker and Leroy Ferguson were indicted for forgery in connection with the passing of a check Saturday at The Picture tube in Pleasant Retreat Plaza south of Lancaster. L.E. Frye was indicted for the theft of a water truck belonging to L.B. Ray.

In other court matters, Charles Settles plead guilty to theft. However, formal sentencing was deferred pending a presentence investigation. Settles allegedly purchased goods from A.T. Arnold's Service Station and Auto Parts under the pretense of being an employee of Lancaster Motors. Members of the grand jury include May Rice, Donald Cora, Florence Pardue, Doris Hurt, Mike Partick, Daniel Purcell, Sam Saly, John May, Jamesetta Kurtz, David Coffey, Samuel Renfroe, and Judy Petrie, foreman.
