Eventually she lost that job and found herself running out of alternatives to Hollywood or going home. So finally Phyllis summoned up her courage and went west where she was soon spotted by Btudio scouts aware of her theatrical potential.

They deoided to launch her career by sending her to the Deb Star Ball. But tlrst studio publicity people had to go to work evolving a rlcated but interesting theatrical dossier for Phyllis, it would be assumed at the dance that she was already well into the business. Oblivious to the preliminaries, Phyllis attended the ball and made a big hit "After that," she reports, "that ot me parts."
