John Martin Edgemon III, 16, Marietta, died Saturday, Jan. 10, IBM, In Ken- nestone Hospital from injuries suffered Friday In an auto accident. He formerly lived in Kokomo, and Green town, Ind. The single-car accident occurred at 8:45 p.m. Friday on rural Providence Road in Cobb County, Georgia.

The Edgemon youth was one of five persons in the car, which left the road and hit a tree, police said. He was a sophomore at Sprayberry High School in Marietta. Born in Kokomo Oct. 30, 1964, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs.

John M. Edgemon II of Marietta, who survive. Also surviving are a maternal grandmother, Edith Gulley of Kokomo, and a paternal grandmother, Thelma Edgemon of Greentown. Services were at today in the chapel of Albert M. Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, with the Rev.

James Griffin officiating. Burial was in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta. Mary Mcrchen TIPTON, Ind. Mary Lucy Merchen, 65, Tipton R.R. 3, died at 1:05 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 11, 1981, in Tipton County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Born June 21, 1915 in Tipton County, she was a daughter of Charles and Agnes (Vernau) Merchen. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Sacred Heart Study Club and Silver Bells Extension Homemakers Club.

Surviving are two adopted sons, Charles Newton, Kokomo, and Richard Newton, Marengo; a sister, Sister Florine, Kokomo; a brother, William Merchen, Tipton; and four grandchildren. Another sister preceded her in death. Wake services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Young-Nichols Funeral Home here. Services will be at 10 a.m.

Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Bouvier officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Ethel Ita Hite Ethel Ita Hite, 85, Sycamore Village Health Care Center, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 1980, In the nursing home following a lengthy illness.

She was married to Raymond V.

Hite, Feb. 19, 1912. He died in June 1953. She was a member of the Highland Park Church, Eastern Star No. 89, Docas Shrine No.

13 of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She retired in 1956 from Delco Electronics Division. She was a practical nurse, having worked at St. Joseph Memorial and Howard Community hospitals and several local nursing homes. She worked as a nurse in private homes.

Surviving are four daughters, Onda Lindley, Vonna Lou Etherington, Patricia Rae Walden and Wanita Mae Carson, all of Kokomo; one son, Robert Hite of Kokomo; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Ellers Chapel, Rev. Martin Dittmar officiating.

Burial will be in Converse IOOS Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Martha Miller TIPTON, Ind. Private services were held Saturday for Martha Ellen Miller, 77, 360 N. Main at Leatherman-Morris Funeral Home here with the Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

She died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 1981, in Tipton County Memorial Hospital following an illness of several weeks. Born Jan. 6, 1904 in Beecher City, 111., she was a daughter of George and Gertrude (Dennis) Cutler.

In August 1922, she married King Deering, who died in January 1957. She then married Orphe Miller, who died in 1975. Mrs. Miller was a member of West Street Christian Church. Surviving is a son, Robert Deering, Atlanta; two sisters, Ruby Moore, Kokomo, and Katherine Murray, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Irene Hostetler GREENTOWN, Ind. Irene Hostetler, 66,121 N. Mill died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 1980, in her home.

Born March 3, 1914, in Howard County, she was the daughter of Forest and Nancy C. (Kendall) Hostetler. She was a homemaker and member of Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren. Surviving are three brothers, Richard Hostetler, New Castle, Emerson Hostetler, Kokomo, and Merle Hostetler, Marion; three sisters, Ruth Goldsberry, Kokomo, Lola Knee, Peru, and Zelma Klingman, Jiggs, Nev. Services will be at 1 p.m.

Wednesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Amboy, with the Rev. Steven Zerbe officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Kokomo. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Olen Cummins CHESTERFIELD, Ind.

Olen Cummins, 48, Chesterfield, died Saturday, Jan. 10,1981, at home following an Illness of four months. Born In Tipton Nov. 3, 1932, he was the son of Paul and Sarah (Mundell) Cummins. He was employed at Delco Remy in Anderson for 30 years and was a member of United Auto Workers M2 and the Chesterfield Christian Church.

Surviving with his wife, Marjorie, who he married in 1952, are three sons, Randy of Chesterfield, and Ronald and Rodney of Lima, Ohio; a daughter, Linda Coonce of Chesterfield; a brother, Jack Cummins of Denver, two sisters, Mona Cyphers of Frankton and Marilyn Fernung of Tipton; a halfbrother, Cash Cummins of Arcadia; and halfsister, Wanda Hawkins of Anderson; and a stepfather, Cecil Pickett of Tipton. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Chesterfield Christian Church with the Rev. Harold Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bronnenberg Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2 to 9 p.m. today at Baker Brothers Funeral Home in Anderson and one hour before the funeral at the Chesterfield Christian Church. Tribune 7 Monday, Jan. 12, 1981 Life underwriters to for cancer Members of the Kokomo Association of Life Underwriters will contact independent businessmen in Kokomo Thursday and Friday as part of their campaign to raise funds to benefit the Howard County chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Mike Calvert, chairman of the local association, John Bergman, chairman of the board, and 100 members of the association will call on local businesses for their financial support of the local cancer society. FIRST FEDERAL George Andrew Henger 88, 1227 N. McCann died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11,1981, in St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital after a three-yean illness.

Born March 7, 1892 in Anderson, he was the son of Joseph and Sophia (Hartwishger) Henger. He married Christina Rotheran Aug. 9,1916 and she survives. Also surviving is a son, George of Kokomo and two grandchildren. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He retired in 1957 from Continental Steel where he was a die-maker. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St.

Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev. George Paster celebrant. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at fillers Mortuary.

Friends may call at the mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Peru woman injured in Miami County accident PERU, Ind. Peggy L. McE- lane, 43, Peru, was listed in serious condition at Dukes Memorial Hospital following a traffic accident Saturday afternoon.

Miami County police reported Mrs. McElane was driving a car south on Strawtown Pike when the vehicle skidded on ice near a curve about one-half mile south of 1000S. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a utility pole, police said. Several thefts are reported to police Kokomo and Howard County police have released reports of four thefts which occurred over the last few days. A bicycle, valued at $150, was reported stolen from Robert Kaufman, Country Park Estates.

Tools, of undetermined value, were reported stolen from Kokomo Rental and Sales 1915 E. North St. William Croddy, Greentown R.R. 2, told police someone stole hand tools, valued at $135, from his truck. Gary Moore, Greentown, reported to police the theft of a small trailer from his home.
