Profanity a of Ignorance. Tho vulgar slu of profanity is more common than formerly in public streets.

We wish all addicted to the habit could understand how vulgar ic is, and how enerally it is accepted as a proof of an empty head and a -week will. Tho North American Review says well: There are amongst us not a few who feel that a simple assertion or a plain statement of obvious facts will pass for nothing, unless they swear to its truth by all the names of tho Deity, and blister their lips with every variety of htft and sulphurous oaths. If wo observe such persons closely, we shall generally find that the fierceness of their profanity is art inverse ratio to the affluence of their idea's- We venture to affirm that the profaiiest men within the circle of your knowledge all afflicted with a cronic weakness of intellect. The utterance of an oath though it may prevent vacuum in sound, is no indication of sense. It requires no genius to Tho reckless taking of sacred names in vain is as little characteristic of true independence of thought as it is of high moral culture.

In this breathing and beautiful world, filled as it -were With the Deity, and fragrant with iaceflie from its thousand altars of praise, it would be no servility should we catch the spirit of reverent worshippers, and illustrate in ourselves the sentiment that the Cbristain is the highest style of mau. substance lias certain powers claimid fgy everybody testifies that it more than is claimed for it, to gainsay Us worth, is useless. Sigior, near this place, to one Edna VanSicklo, a young girl of 19 years. Miss VanSioklo is a sister-in-law of Mr. Sigler, and during her courtship lived at his house. Strublo also took several moals at Siglcr'a, for which claim was mado in this suit. Struble denied ever agreeing to pay tho board of his intended beforo her marriage, and of having promised to pay tho expenses of the wedding supper, and maintained that it is contrary to custom for the groom to pay such bills. He asserted that he was opposed to making a public wedding, and that tho celebration was made in honor of the bride by her sister and brother-in-law. Why should Aquilla ask such a question Although quite a flegling in rsportorial experience, ho hjys proven himself a level-headed sort of fellow, Hia points are usually well taken, and his ideas are fresh and his opinions well digested. Why then ho should ask tho above question seems a mystery too profound for our solution. Jle cannot wish to bo understood that ho is uncertain as to the long accepted belief of tho moon's utility in ways without number, to tho race of men. That silent, silvery mopi), "rolling on while tho nightingale's is in tune," claims adcgreo of usefulness that ordinary minds must fail to comprehend.

What would our'lads Hijcl lassies do without tho moon? Why they would have nothing to gaze at, nothing to dream about and meditate upon when they take their summer evening rambles in sequestered alleys and grassy laues! Our old folks would not know half the timo wb.cn to plant their seeds but for tho moon; and in some sections the people would be absolutely at a Joss when to marry.
