Buckley is investigating a Senate inquiry of Senator Thomas J. Podd Connecticut.

After a 14-month study, the Senate Ethics Committee recommended that Dodd be censured for what it termed financial misconduct, including diverting to his personal use $116,083 in campaign and political testimonial funds. Action on the censure resolution has been postponed at Dodd's request. Dodd said he needed additional time to prepare a floor defense. He has maintained he did nothing wrong. Lawrence Speiser, director of the ACLU's Washington office, said the organization specifically was interested in seeing whether Dodd had been accorded due process of law in the check of his financial affairs.

Speiser said Dos Passos and Buckley asked the ACLU to investigate. Both are members of a conservative group formed to support Dodd after the bipartisan Ethics Committee recommended censure.
