The entrance to the secret passage had escaped the watchful eyes of wife and son for So far as can he learned not a man or woman of Zion knew there was a retreat that would hide the prophet. That the Apostle expected that a. foe would some day entrap him was proved by the articles which were found within it.

A bed, built within the walls, a clothes closet and cupboard combined, wherein might be stored clothes and food sufficient for many days, were some of the articles found. A telephone stood upon the floor and all connections had been made. Electric lights had been Installed and at the touch of a button the darkened room was flooded with liKht. The directors of the Kxpositiort Society met yesterday afternoon in the Stevenson Building, and it was practically decided that the Pittsburg Exposition hall will be remodeled so that conventions and other large gatherings can be held there. This is a project that has been agitated for years, but heretofore the question of where to get money to pay for the improvements has stood in the way. As the committee is composed of public spirited and wealthy men.

it is thought that they will find means of securing the necessary funds. It is estimated that $100,000 spent In improvements on the hall would make it one of the best in the country. In such an auditorium as this would" provide, the Pittsburg- Orchestra, the management of which organization is interested in the new move, could give concerts for such nominal prices of admission as 25 and 5o cents, and that the hall would be crowded is assured by the success attending the orchestra's concerts in Old City Hall and Carnegie Hall, Allegheny. aim a regular ldr can fine, per it 7c OPPOSES KNOX. "Washington. April 11. For more than four hours yesterday J. W. Bailey, Democrat, of Texas, held the attention of the Semite with a speech in reply to J.

C. Spooner, of Wisconsin, and P. C. Knox, of Pennsylvania, and just before its conclusion there was a significant suggestion from KuKne Hale, of Maine, indicating the possibility of an understanding anil an early vote on the railroad rate bill. Bailey set out with the one end in view of establishing the soundness of his contention that Congress has power to deny to the inferior 1'nited States courts th- right to suspend the order of the Interstate Commerce Commission, pending the final division of cases arising under the proposed law.

This he undertook to do by citing innumerable decisions of the courts and quoting many other aut honties. Mr. Hale announced bis willingness to accept the anti-suspension amendment, and expressed confidence that if Mr. Bailev wouid on the other hand agree to a broad court review there would be comparatively little difficulty in reaching an agreement on the bill. The great value of a beef diet has long been recognized by athletes. It is one of the few foods upon which man can live exclusively. But while beef contains the body building materials which everyone must have, it also contains much water, and fiber and indigestible waste. Invalids and some healthy individuals in the usual walks of life are frequently distressed on this account. Rex Beef Extract is concentrated beef.

It is beef with the water, waste fiber, and tissue left out. Forty-five pounds of the finest selected lean beef is required to make one pound of the extract. Over five pounds of beef to a two ounce jar. It is beef in a form that even the weakest stomach can readily assimilate. Its extraordinary value as a food for invalids and those with weak stomachs is universally recognized and it is invariably ordered by physicians for use in wasting diseases and fevers where strength must be keut up without strain or tax upon the digestive organs.

It is not onlv valuable as a food in itself, but it creates appetite and makes other foods digestible. A small quantity- added to a poor roast will make it delicious. It is indispensable for all roasts, chops, steaks, soups and gravies. As a beverage, it forms a bracer that stimulates but leaves no bad after effects. The good it does is permanent.
