COUNTY (PA.) DAILY TIMES Thursday, March 28, 1968 27 WITH THE SERVICES Former Countian Earns Navy Heroism Medal Sgt. John R. Glberson, 21, grandson of Mrs. Addie Wigger, of '2332 Third Upper Chichester, has been awarded tha Navy Commendation Medal with combat device for outstanding heroism in Vietnam. Giberson, whose parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Benjamin McCarry, now live in Wiiliamstown, N.J., was presented the medal by Marine Corps Lt. Gen. V. H.

Krulak, commanding general of the Pacific Fleet Marine Force for the Secretary of the Navy. Giberson was cited for heroic action while with the 3rd Marine Division's 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in operations against the enemy on June 2, 1967. Giberson's 16 man patrol encountered a North Vietnamese forjce of Undetermined size while deep within enemy territory on regonnajlssance. The action occurred in the southern portion of Demilitarized Zone. Upon that the point Ttjan of the patrol was by enemy fire in arr "open area, Giberson "courageously advanced" with a machine gun, according to the upright, fully enemy fire, he citation.

"Standing exposed to delivered accurate fire, gaining effective fire superiority which permittee! his companions to manuever to more advantageous positions," the citation credited Giberson. "With complete disregard for his own safety, he remained in the forward position to cover the withdrawal of the point man," according to the citation. Spec. 4 John B. Wilson whose parents live at 834 Chestnut Collingdale was JOHN WILSON selected "Soldier of the Month" for the 39th Signal Battalion in Vietnam.

Wilson, whose wife, Betty, lives Millville, is a communications specialist with the Army unit near Bear Cat. SAMUEL SHAKESPEARE Second Lt. Samuel W. Shakespeare whose parents live at 217 Sutton Ridley Township, was commissioned upon graduation from Officer Training School, Lackland Air Force Base, Tex. A graduate of Ridley Township High School, he (received a bachelor of science degree from West Chester State College and a master of artsi degree from New York State University at Stony Brook.

5th Chester, completed Coast Guard! L. J. DE MARCO WILLIAM DI DOMIZIO recruit training at Cape Training Center, N. J. Second Lt.

Ronald M. Creely, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Creely, of 409 Cedar Morton, completed the helicopter pilot training course at the Army Primary Helicopter School, Ft.

Wolters, Tex. and was assigned to advanced flight training at the Army Aviation School, Ft. Rucker, Ala. Pvt. L.

J. DeMarco, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DeMarco, of 510 W. South Glenolden, completed Marine Corps individual combat training at Camp LeJeune, N.

C. First Lt. John Kildea 26, whose parents live at 44 Colwyn Colwyn, was promoted to his present rank recently in Vietnam. He is an operating room nurse at the Army's 2nd Surgical Hospital near Chu Lai. Spec.

5 Roy C. Jewell 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jeweil, of 798 E. 24th Chester, has been promoted to his present ROY JEWELL specialist rating on completion of training at the Army Southeastern Signal School, Ft.

Gordon, Ga. Jewell is home on a 30-day leave prior to assignment to the 34th Support Headquarters Company in Vietnam as an avionics electrical equipment specialist. Jewell, a 1965 graduate of St. James High School, was attending St. Joseph's College Evening Division and was employed by the Vertol Division of Boeing Co.

when he entered the Army on May 23, 1967. He received basic training at Ft. Bragg, N. C. Cpl.

William C. Johns, 19, son of Mrs. Margaret R. Moore, of 1555 Market Lower Chichester, is with a Marine' Corps force at Mable Mountain, about 3 miles from Da Nang, Vietnam. WILLIAM JOHNS Johns left Chester High School when he was 17 and enlisted in the Marines, in December of 1965.
