KROGER GROCERY. Kroger Grocery is angling for control of one of the largest chain store systems in New York city and the east. The concern in question, it is stated, is the James Butler Grocery with more than 1,000 stores. Negotiations have already been begun with bankers for Kroger. James Butler is not to be confused with Butler Brothers, which has just denied the rumor that it would shortly be taken over by one of the large mail order corporations, presumably Montgomery Ward, though it is likely that the Kroger-James Butler report will meet with the usual comment in official sources.

Bankers, however, cannot deny the fact that Kroger Grocery has been pushing an aggressive expansion program, that it is still interested doing this and that it has long desired a foothold in the Metropolitan territory.
