As a result of the attempt to assassinate King Alfonso and fcis bride on their wedding day, the chiefs of the police in the various large cities in the southern part of Europe have decided to hold a conference in this city next week. The meeting of this conference, which will le led by the chiefs of police of Home, Madrid and Faris. are to be held in secret, and plans Tor a 'campaign against the anarchists who infest Southern Europe are to be discussed. The lists of name of anarchists now in the possession of the police authorities of countries will be compared and a special rogues' gallery, consisting exclusively of anarchists, will be made up from photographs now in the hands of the authorities. A complete set of photographs will then be sent to every police department in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

It is known to the police of Paris that the anarchistic colony in this city has increased very much during the last few months and more than a score of special detectives are watching all meetings which come to the knowledge of the police. It is also said that two detectives whose names are. of course, kept secret, have succeeded in joining the inner circle of the anarchistic group In this city. The police are indebted to a former anarchist. Charles Cruny, for much valuable information.

Cruny. who is a blacksmith by trade, was recently captured together with a number of other characters during a raid in the Paris markets, and in his pockets were, found four diagrams of infernal machines of very ingenious construction. While he was confined in a cell it was discovered that he was the long-lost heir to a considerable fortune left by an old man who died some time ago in a provincial town in the southern part of France. When the news was broken to him he was very much affected by it. and said that, as he had only been driven into the ranks of the anarchists by his inability to get work, and as he" now would be able to lead an honest life, he 'was determined to give up till connection with the assassins.

He asked to be permitted to see the chief of police, to whom he confessed a number of intended crimes which had come to his knowledge anil which the authorities will now be able to prevent. The rules of the society do not call for absolute silence, but the members are supposed not to talk unless they have something to say. Chatter is absolutely tabooed. Each member pledges himself (the club is exclusively for men), to avoid noisy places and participation in public demonstrations.

At the recent meeting the members declared that since they joined the club not only were their nervous systems much better, but those who did any work had obtained much better results than heretofore, because they had not frittered away their energies in excessive talking. Divorce has taken the form of an epidemic in the Castellane family, and its ramifications. Princess Leon Constantine Radziwell, who was married only last June, has just divorced her husband. The Radziwells are cousins of the Castellanes, the Dowager Princess being the sister of the Marquis de Castellane. The young woman who has just obtained her divorce and francs a year alimony, was Antonia de Gramont.

A most revolting crime has just been discovered in one of the public schools here.

A small boy of seven years has been systematically driven towards in-snnity by his own mother through the use of absinthe. The child almost daily had fits in school during which he exhibited symptoms strongly resembling those of delirium tremens. The child was very vicious and was always ricking quarrels with his fellow pupils. He was con-stantlv asking to be excused from the schoolroom for a minute, and the teacher suspecting that these absences were not altogether unconnected with the fits, had him watched. It was found that he carried with hint a bottle of absinthe from which he continually itank.

Upon investigation it was learned that the little fellow's mother filled the bottle for him every dav and that she did it on rurpose, knowing what a terrible effect the dreadful liquor had upon the child. American artists, residing in the Latin Quarter have recently been victimized by a band of youthful robbers, who, under pretense of being models, gained access to their suites and carried off everything they could lay their hands on- which had any value. The leader of the band is a girl of 14, Julia Claudiren. The police made a descent on her rooms recently following upon the complaint of a number -of American artists.
