An Illinois man was killed Wednesday morning when the vehicle he was driving struck a guard rail on U.S. 61 in Marion County and burst into flames, officials said.

Frank Edwards, 35, of Mur-physboro, 111., was pronounced dead at the scene near Hannibal after his tractor-trailer struck a guard rail on the left side of the highway, the Missouri Highway Patrol said. The tractor separated from the trailer, caught fire and plunged down an embankment, the patrol said.
