20, 1998) at St. Anthony's Medical Center in south St. Louis County after suffering a heart attack. He was 53 and lived in the Oakville area of South County. Mr.

Dillon was vice president of operations for C.D. Peters Construction Co. in Granite City. Earlier, he worked for more than 25 years for several commercial building construction firms in the St. Louis area.

He was a member of Thomas E. Walsh Retired Post-Dispatch employee Thomas E. Walsh, a retired PostDispatch employee, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at his home in Cairo, of complications from diabetes. He was 77.

Smith Warehouse manager, hotel clerk Horace Byas Smith, a church deacon, former hotel clerk in St. Louis and a warehouse manager, died Friday (Oct. 16, 1998) at his home in St. Louis after a long illness. He was 74.

She was the first woman elected as student council president at Affton High School and as a member of Jobes Daughters she was the Queen of the Gardenville Chapter.

She was also the first woman named as Athletic Director at Florissant Jr. High. After retirement, her winter months were spent traveling, eventually settling in Mesa, AZ. In the early 1960s, he was promoted to front desk clerk at the old Diplomat Hotel in the Central West End. Family members say he was the first black to hold that job at a white hotel here.

Mr. Smith left the hotel business in 1972. He retired in 1986 as warehouse manager of the Midwest Tool and Supply Co. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Christ Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 1341 North Kingshighway.

Burial will be Rental and Sales. He was active in both businesses until he retired in 1994. He was born in Greenville, and reared in St. Louis. He was an ordained minister of Jehovah's Witnesses and gave much of his time and support to the Melville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

David was a self employed telecommunications specialist and a long time singer guitarist at local establishments in the Washington DC area, in 1973 he wrote recorded the song 'You are the Salt of the Earth', a precusor of the now popular religious rock music which was heavily played in the Washington market. David was very active in the Westwood Baptist church in Fairfax, VA and in animal rescue activities for the Montgomery County Humane Society and PETA. He represented the petroleum industry in Tulsa, OK and Indianapolis, IN until he and his wife moved to Centralia, IL in 1938 to form Universal Butane Co. which supplied LP gas to oil fields and the domestic market. In 1953, he and his family moved to St.

Louis, MO. Gene Felt will be fondly remembered for his honesty, generosity, fairness and faithful practice to the Golden Rule. A private family service was held on Oct. 20, 1998. No memorials.
