i (UPI) Senator Warren G. Mag' nuson, a member of Congress since 1937 and of the Senate since 1944, will seek the Demo cratic nomination for a new term next Tuesday in Washington's primary election. Magnuson, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, faces only token opposition from John Pa trie, a bearded self- styled eccentric who said that he filed for the office "only as a protest." Seeking the Republican nom ination for Magnuson's Senate seat are Richard G. Christen- a a I iitharon minictAt flnrl Ben Larson, a high school prin cipal. Both are making their first campaign for public office, Secretary of State Victor A.

J4eyers predicted a light turn-' I nut of voters because the gov' ernorship is not at stake and the Senate contest is the only state-wide race. All seven of the state's mem' bers of the House of Representa tives are seeking re-election. Five of them. Republicans Thomas Pelly, Jack Westland, Catherine May and Thor C. Tot lefson, and Democrat Julia Butler Hansen, are unopposed for their party's nomination.

Representative Walt Horan, a Republican, will be opposed for the nomination by Don Wessels, a Spokane business man and a political newcomer. Representative Don Magnuson, a Democrat, will face three challengers for the nomination. None has held public office in the past. Don Magnuson is not related to the Senator. Washington's primary law the only one of its kind in the nation permits a voter to split his ticket.

A voter may cast his ballot in the Republican primary for one office and in the Democratic primary for another. QUICK-DRAW CHESS EXPERTS ARE TOLD TO PLAY THE GAME 'STOCKHOLM, Sept. 8 (UPI)-The International Chess Federation Congress ended Thursday with a decision aimed at stopping "grand master draws" in intsr-national matches. In the interzonal world Chess Tournament in Stockholm last winter, and more recently in the Curacao world semifinals, it was not unusual for chess masters to agree on a draw after only 10 moves. The congress has decided that both players may be declared losers if they agree on a draw bftfnrn 30 moves.

Tournament referee may, however, make exceptions. The congress's decision is to be applied at the chess Olympics which open at Varna Sept. 15. A congress spokesman refused to 6ay whether United States delegates suggested the new rule. Informed sources said United States champion Bobby Fischer, who is to take part at Varna, was eager to have the draw decision passed.
