28 OBITUARIES ST. LOUIS POST- DISPATCH SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1997 Huygene Fujiwara, 67; Was Food Scientist Huygene K. Fujiwara, a retired food scientist at Ralston Purina died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 1997) at his home in Barnhart after suffering a heart attack. He was 67.

Mr. Fujiwara was born in New Rockford, N.D. He earned a bachelor's degree from Minot State Teachers College in Minot, N.D., and a master's degree from Stanford University. He began his career in 1951 as a high school teacher in North Dakota. He taught science and mathematics and also coached football, basketball and track.

In 1964, he was one of nine science teachers across the country to receive a Shell Fellowship to study Dr. Arturo Taca; Area Urologist Was Activist Centreville, and at the old Central Medical Center in St. Louis. He was the godson of Benigno S. Aquino, the slain husband of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino.

As national Dr. Arturo M. Taca, a urologist and Philippine activist, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 1997) at his home in Town and Country of complications from emphysema. Tuesday was his 52nd birthday.

Dr. Taca was in private practice for 20 years in Venice and St. Louis. He was on staff at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, St.

Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, Centreville Hospital in chairman of the Movement for a Free Philippines, Dr. Taca often spoke out against the late Ferdinand E. Marcos, who preceded Corazon Aquino as Philippine president. He wrote numerous articles for the Post-Dispatch's "Letters to the Editor" column.

Dr. Taca was born and reared in the Philippines. He earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. He came to this country in 1972 and settled in St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Schrader Funeral Home, 14690 Manchester Road, Ballwin. A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 530 South Mason Road, Town and Country.

The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Philippines. Among the survivors are his wife, Maria T. Taca; three sons, Arturo "Coco" Taca, Antonio "Tobie" Taca and John "Dino" Taca, all of Town and Country; two daughters, Teresa Taca and Lisa Taca, both of Town and Country; his mother, Basilisa M.

Taca of the Philippines; and two sisters, Elizabeth Taca of New York and Alice Taca of the Philippines. ILLINOIS DEATHS ILLINOIS advanced chemistry. He came here in 1966 and joined Ralston Purina as a food scientist, researching and developing food products. He held two patents one for snack products and the other for colored popcorn. He retired in 1994.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 630 Jeffco Boulevard in Arnold. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

He was married for 43 years to Muriel R. Maschka Fujiwara; she died in 1993. Among the survivors are three daughters, Keri R. Robertson of Warm Springs, Kili L. Hefflinger of Columbia, and Koni M.

Fujiwara of Ely, three sons, Kent L. Fujiwara of Ke- Fujiwara nosha, Kim H. Fujiwara of Barnhart and Gene T. Fujiwara of Arnold; a sister, Suye A. Holtzinger of Cole City, a brother, Karlo D.

Fujiwara of Billings, 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Recent deaths in the Metro East area: ALTON Donald L. KELLER, THEODORE "TED" 68, I of 78 Eastview died Thurs. Feb. 13, 1997 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, VT. He was born in Kirkwood, Mo. on Dec.

10, 1928, son of the late John A. and Alma Keller. He attended Kirkwood High School and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was married to Elizabeth Lois Keller for 41 years, who predeceased him Aug.

31, 1994. Ted had worked in publishing for 50 years, 35 years with C.R. Gibson Inc. and received numerous awards and certificates. He had traveled extensively over the years with his wife.

He is survived by his six children, Theodore M. Keller of Delta AK, Theresa L. Melfi of Norwalk, CT, Tina L. DeWitt of Maybee, MI, Timara L. Downes of Wolcott, NY, Timothy J.
