Henderson, our WASHINGTON, June 14 (AP) Two entertainers told Senators today that efforts were made to force them into prostitution when they worked in Calumet City (111.) night clubs. One said the same thing happened at a Miami (Fla.) club. Corinne Suzette Stein, a showgirl from Pittsburgh, said she got nowhere when she complained to her union, the AF'L-CIO American Guild of Variety Artists against what she termed lurid and obscene working conditions in night clubs. "For eight or nine years I argued for union protection," Mrs. Stein said.

"But they always sloughed me off as a fanatical strip-teaser." Mrs. Stein said she had never succumbed to night club coercion to mix with or prostitute herself for male customers. Walked Off Job. "I escaped," she said, "because I'm not to be pushed around. I walked out of the job in Miami." The testimony was before a Senate investigations subcommittee exploring A.G.V.A.'s rnle as a union supposed to protect its entertainer members.

In that connection, the hearing is pursuing the question whether girl entertainers have been placed in fear for their lives and made victims of practices in honky-tonk clubs run by a crime syndicate based in the Chicago area. Preceding Mrs. Stein to the witness chair was Joan Gains-ley, who said she worked as a dancer and B-girl at the 21 Club in Calumet City. She said attempts were made to force her into prostitution. Expected to Mix.

Mrs. Stein told the Senators that in Miami's Clover Club employers expected the girls to mix with the male customers and offer themselves for prostitution. In Calumet City's Folies Ber-gere, she said, "girls were forced to mix, to use sex to get customers to buy drinks." Some girls were manhandled and beaten by customers at the Calumet City club, she said. uemy, reward, 7-9MB alter ht COLLlK; sable, male Olive St. rd.

He said it is a question "of establishing a sound balance within the Atlantic power bloc. To achieve this, it is vitally necessary to build up and expand European unity." Europe, Strauss declared, "should become a pillar of the Atlantic community which would be inconceivable and untenable without a true American-European partnership." He told the graduating class that Soviet policy, which he said seeks to "prevent European unity and maneuver the Americans out of Europe," is an "indirect confirmation of the soundness of the idea of European-American partnership."
