-n at the Post Office at 10 PAGES-TWO Cl Tragedy Occurred at a Theatrical Performance and The Note Mesmerist, Maximilian Langster, Was Arrested After the Charged With Murder. VIENNA, by professor Maximilian noted mesmerist, during a theatrical performance, a policeman of Sebenico started shooting into a crowd of spectators, killed three, wounded several, and hustled a number of others away to the police station. There he came out of his trance, and was arrested on a charge of murder. The hypnotist was also arrested. News of the strange tragedy was received here today in a dispatch from Sebenico, which is a town of 10,000 people, on the Adriatic seacoast.

Langster advertised that he would perform feats of hvpno- ism hitherto unattempted. This attracted a big crowd of townsfolk to the theatre. The mesmerist's first subject was policeman, who smilingly agreed to mount the stage and submit to tho Influence of Laugster's glaring eye and weaving fingers. The policeman fell under Langster's spell Immediately, and tho Hypnotist soon had the audience roaring with laughter, as he put his "victim" through a number of funny tricks. Finally he handed the policeman a block of wood, and said: "This IS a "revolver, shoot." Moving as if in daze, his eyes staring into apace liko those of a sleep-walker, the policeman took tho piece of wood.

Hush fell over the audience. The block of wood dropped from the subject's fingers and clattered on the stage. An instant later the policeman produced his own revolver and began firing into tho audience. Screams and cries of the terrified people ire. punctured by the reports of shota.

Several people slumped in f.fats. Then tho hypnotized man leaped from the Btage and attacked the spectators. He fuzed a number and lie'ded them together, telling them they were under arrest. Driving them before him, he marched to the police station. The hypnotist, who had mean- been making unsuccessful efforts to bring the policeman out of the spell, followed.

At the station house Langrstor fl- Koily succeeded In bringing the rr.an out of his condition of mesmerism.
