Latest choice to play a role made famous by Jefferson is Richard Gordon, who made Sherlock Holmes a radio personality.

For several years Gordon was the master sleuth, taking the role after a single broadcast by William Gillette who retired from the stage after a performance in Pittsburgh. Gordon will be cast in "Rip Van Winkle" on KDKA's Great Play series at 2 o'clock this afternoon. His last Broadway appearance in the legitimate theater was in "The Fabulous Invalid." Since then he has had varied radio leads. Gordon is a native of Bridgeport, Conn. His first job was that of a reporter on a morning paper in his home town.

Newspaper success encouraged him to go to New York, where he joined the staff of the World, now the World-Telegram. He spent his newspaper earnings in the study of art at Yale and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. The "Rip Van Winkle" story to be enacted this afternoon was written by Jeflerscm and rewritten for him by Dion Boucicault for presentation in London, where it ran 170 nights.
