I 4B ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH TUESDAY, MAY 21,1991 OBITUARIES Kerry Sisters Remembered As Crusaders For Justice Dr. Earl Shepard, 82; Professor At Washington Orthodontist 2 Whose Lives Ended Violently Are Mourned s.1 1 1 By Peter Hernon Of the Post-Dispatch Staff As friends blew bubbles, Julie and Robin Kerry were remembered Monday as young women unafraid to fight for justice in a world that violently took their lives on an abandoned bridge. Friends and family members laid red roses on the white casket holding Julie Kerry's body at Calvary Cemetery after a crowded funeral Mass at St. Jerome Catholic Church in north St.

Louis County. The Mass for the 20-year-old woman also was a memorial service for her sister, Robin, 19, whose body has not been recovered since police say the women were sexually attacked on April 5 on the old Chain of Rocks Bridge and knocked into the Mississippi River. Julie Kerry's body was found late last month in the Mississippi River nearly 200 miles south of St. Louis. song she had composed.

A friend, Mike Vogt, recalled Julie Kerry's dark curly hair and bright green eyes. She closely resembled Robin in her scholarship, her love of poetry and her quick smile. Among the survivors are their parents, Richard C. and Ginny M. Kerry; two sisters, Kathleen and Jamie Kerry, all of north St.

Louis County; and grandparents Edward J. Kerry, of St. Louis, and Eugene and Maria Cummins of Safety Harbor, Fla. Those who attended the church service were given a piece of yellow paper rolled like a scroll and tied with red ribbon. The sheet included a list of sayings that were posted on the walls of Julie and Robin Kerry's bedrooms.

Robertson cited one of the sayings as he stood by Julie Kerry's casket on a hazy afternoon. "The future is not something we enter. The future is something we create." at Rosati-Kain High School, encouraged his listeners to "carry the torch of justice they carried, to work against war and violence, to work for the homeless," just as the sisters had done in their brief lives. The service captured the spirit of the women, both social activists and honor students at the University of Missouri at St. Louis.

Friends blew soap bubbles in the church, at 10257 Ashbrook Drive, and at the graveside service. Bubbles trailed from the windows of some of the nearly 100 cars in the long cortege. A sparkling, ruby-and-green balloon emblazoned with the words "World's Greatest" was released at the cemetery. During the service, Robertson played a tape of Julie Kerry's performance on an electronic keyboard of a J. Kerry R.
