Downs; Longtime Aviator In Area, Retired Ozark Captain Joseph Colin, 63; Lawyer Active In Civil Rights, Liberties Cases taught mathematics at Roosevelt High School. He served as director of the St Louis Evening School Program from 1946 to 1948. Later, he was principal at Froebel and Madison elementary schools.

He retired in 1968. Mr. Kuntz served in the Army during World War I. Mr. Kuntz was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and a member of the National Education Association.

Surviving are a son, Dr. J. Kenneth Kuntz of Iowa City; two brothers, Clarence H. Kuntz and Herbert A. Kuntz, both of St.

Louis; and two grandchildren. The funeral for John F. Kuntz, St Louis public school principal and teacher, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kriegshauser South Mortuary, 4228 South Kingshighway Boulevard. Burial will be at Valhalla Cemetery.

Mr. Kuntz, 89, died of infirmities Thursday at his home in Iowa City, Iowa. A longtime resident of St. Louis, Mr. Kuntz attended the city's school system.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1922 and a bachelor of science degree in 1924 from the University of Missouri at Columbia. In 1928, he earned a master's degree from Columbia University in New York City. From 1932 until 1946, Mr. Kuntz A funeral service for Paul Downs, longtime area aviator and retired Ozark Air Lines captain, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hutchens Mortuary, 675 Graham Road, Florissant A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m.

at the city cemetery in Bellflower, Mo. Downs Robert D. Dahlin; Operated U. City Firm Flying Service at Lambert Field. By 1951, he had signed on with Ozark Air Lines.

He logged more than 10,000 flight hours in Douglas DC-3 airplanes before retiring in 1967. He was the first captain to retire from Ozark. In the late 1960s, CapL Downs started a flying service at Smartt Field in St Charles County. His wife, Ruby, continued as a partner in bis business and as a bookkeeper and clerk. After his retirement Capt Downs was a Federal Aviation Administration examiner.

He granted licenses to hundreds of pilots in the area through 1981. Throughout his aviation career, Capt Downs logged more than 30,000 hours in the sky. He had been active since 1981 in the FAA's Accident Prevention Program. He also was active in the Greater St Louis Flight Instructors' Association; the Missouri Pilots' Association; the Silver Swallows, a group of Ozark retirees; and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are a son, Jerry Downs of Florissant; a daughter, Jacquelyn Oughton, of Florissant; a brother, Ar-ley Downs of Keytesville, five grandchildren; and four Funeral services were held Friday served in the The appointment had been recommended by a grand jury in St.

During the Vietnam War, Mr. Cohn represented many people including students at Washington University and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale who were opposed to the war and to ROTC training. Mr. Cohn was a member of the board of the Illinois American Civil Liberties Union and also the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri.

He was a founding member of Lawyers for Public Justice, a group based in Washington. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Cohn; three daughters, Judy Cohn of Chicago, Linda Cohn of Manhattan, N.Y., and Ellen Keelan of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his father, Samuel Cohn of west St. Louis County; two sisters, Ida Pearlstone of University City and Let-tie Smith of Olivette; and two brothers, Alvin Cohn of Los Angeles, and Maurice Cohn of Long Beach, Calif. A funeral service for Joseph Cohn, a lawyer who handled many civil rights cases, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday.at Berger Memorial Chapel, 4715 McPherson Avenue.

Burial will be at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery. Mr. Cohn, 63, died of cancer Saturday at Jewish Hospital. He lived in St Louis. Mr.

Cohn graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale before he entered the Army Air Forces in World War II. After his discharge, he enrolled in the Washington University Law School. He graduated in 1948. In 1948, Mr. Cohn was a founding partner of the law firm of Cohn, Carr, Korein, Brennan Schlichter in East St Louis.

He supported civil rights and liberties for blacks during the 1950s and 1960s in the East St. Louis area. In 1959, Circuit Judge Harold O. Farmer in Belleville appointed Mr. Cohn a special investigator of the East St.

Louis Police Department. CapL Downs, 80, died Friday at the Northgate Park Nursing Home in Florissant after a long illness. He was a professional aviator here for nearly 59 years. He began his flying career in 1928 after graduating in the first Parks College class, which had six students. He began his first job as a flight instructor in 1929 in Tarkio, flying an open cockpit Beech biplane.

In 1931, he worked as a pilot and mechanic for Curtis Aviation at Lambert Field. In the 1930s, he did a great deal of banner towing, charter work, crop dusting and smoke writing. During World War II, he worked as an instructor for the Civilian Pilot Training Service. In 1949, he formed his own flying school the Central ing world war II. In the mid-1960s, he founded a similar firm, ISPG which was sold recently.

He retired in 1974 and moved to Tampa after living in Brentwood for 28 years. Mr. Dahlin worked as a volunteer for several groups here. Surviving in addition to his brother are his wife, Alma; two sons, Dale Dahlin of Tampa and Donald Dahlin of Scottsdale, a daughter, Barbara Dahlin of Los Angeles; and six grandchildren. in Tampa, for Robert D.

Dahlin, a former businessman in University City. The body was cremated. Mr. Dahlin, 66, died Tuesday at his home in Tampa of complications after heart surgery. In 1950, Mr.

Dahlin and his brother, William, of Kansas City, founded Benchcraft Inc. The company, at 8041 Olive Boulevard, University City, specializes in storage design and equipment.
