Jilson as post master at Plymouth. Clark Thompson exhibted at Ply mouth a stalk of corn 12 feet in height, but devoid of a 6ign of an ear of corn the trouble with much of the corn this year. The following marriage licenses hay been issued this week: Julius Born and Catharine Betz, Washington Montgomery and Ollie Shafer, Art Cabanaw and Edith Morra. In Jewish society circles the engage ments are made public of Miss Bertha Lauer to Mr. Jacob Speyer, of Lexing ton, and of Miss Julia Nussbaum to Mr.

Samuel Goldsmith, of Chicago. The management of the Plymouth fair announce that they will offer a prize for a bicycle race during' the fair, and ac cordingly the local wheelman are put ting in spare time practicing on speed. The Palmer house, and the Lake View Hotel at Maxinkuckee have been closed for the season. Mr. and Mrs.

Lamson and family have returned to their homes here; Prosecuting Attorney Stevens has notified the township trustees of this county that they are to be summoned to appear before the grand jury, with their records of those who have had their dogs registered. Owners of dogs who are desirous of escaping an indictment had better get a move on themselves and get their dogs registered before the grand jury meets. Last Friday evening fire was dis covered in the large ware-house and storage room adjoining Linkenhelt's big elevator. An alarm was promptly turned in and the firemen were soon on the spot and had the fire under control, The only damage done was the burning of a large hole in the roof, yet had it burned for 10 minutes more it would probably have baffled the best efforts of the firemen and been consumed. Miss Elmira Grosewas at the World 's fair last week. John Raas and Frank Snyder expect to soon go to Lafayette. Louis Row is at work plastering -Frank Frehoufs house. Amos Grose, has arrived home from Michigan with a new wife. The Bremen fair will catch quite a crowd from Wyatt and vicinity.

Valparaiso is said to have the largest church membership of any town of its size in the state. The Michigan City Reed Chair company resumed work with a full force of men this week. The 25th annual reunion of the 129th Indiana regiment will be held in Angola on Tuesday October 5. At Michigan City fire damaged the Lent Manufacturing Company a plant Loss insurance, $14,000. A Port Huron, factory is mak- ing underclothes from wood fiber, which are equal in all respects to those made of wool.

A Wabash woman was divorced Friday and in twenty minutes later was a-rain a wife. And yet Wabash is spoken of as a 6low going town. Henry Goodman, editor and proprietor of the Laporte Journal, a german newspaper, and the Laporte Evening Star. has failed with liabilities of $18,000 and assets practically nothing. In a cave in Harrison county several dozens of chickens in coops, about 40 bushels of wheat, 6ome clothing and other articles were found that had been stolen in that neighborhood.

Ben Tepell, a 16-year-old Bristol lad, died several days ago, and the physicians say his death was caused by excessive cigarette smoking and too frequent bathings in the river. John II. Benson, aged 91, one of the oldest and most highly respected citi zens of Rush county and father of Luther Benson, the temperance orator is dying at his home near Rushville. A. P.

Ryan, of Rolling Prairie, has fallen a victim to green goods men of New York. He went to New York with a satchel in which to bring home his riches, but failed to secure the latter. The new citizens' natural gas company the organization of which came near knoong Logansport society into smith- prnfiens. has suddenly collapsed. It shone brilliantly for a lime, like a sky rocket, but came down like a stick.

Swindlers circulated in Deaborn coun ty, this state, offering farmers $2 for privilege of posting show bills on their farms. The farmers were called upon to sign receipts for the money, and these receipts afterwards turned up as notes catling for $50 and even $100. Hugo Strahl has been given a judg ment for $2,000 aeainst Dr. C. S.

Kelloe of Valparaiso, who rendered Strahl a cripple for life by the bung ling manner in which a broken leg was set. At a former trial the plaintiff received a verdict for $600, but the de endant sought a new trial. Miss Viola Dietrich and two men are under arrest in Kokomo, charged with highway robbery. Her plan was to get reputable men to accompany her through the street at night, claiming that she was afraid. She would lead them down a dark alley, where they were pounced upon and robbed by her accomplices.

The Lake Erie Western will no longer carry its passengers to Michigan City and then to Chicago by way of the lake as heretofore but will, instead, run over the Nickle Plate's line from Argoe. where the roads intersect. The un certainty of the weather and the likeli hood of the lake being very rough has been assigned as the cause. At Brazil, pedestrians were startled by seeing a large ball of fire. apparently the size of a tub, appear in the western part of the city.

It passed entirely over the city and seemed to be no higher than the tree tops. From the burning ball streamed a long tail, which as it passed, sputtered continually, send ing out a perfect Bhower of sparks. While Jesse Gordon, Jack Weir and Robert Kern, gas well drillers, of How ard county, were standing over a well fishing for lost tools, there was a buret of sulphuric acid, or Eome other pecul iar kind of gas, which took effect in their eyes, blinding them. The balls of their eyes have the appearance of having been seared by a hot iron, and there is feared that they are permanently blind ea. A short time before Uriah Huff, of Wabaeh county, was killed last June at Wabash, he drew $2,000 from a bank He did not need the money but became impressed with the idea that fund3 out of a bank was safer than funds in one and took his $2,000 and secreted it.

Will iam Grote, of Vincennes, while waiting for a train at Mitchell, was ar rested by the town marshall as an in sane person, and he was detained for some time before physicians pronounced him in his right mind. The town" mar ehal wired the Vincennes authorities that Grote was insane, and he persisted in accompanying him to Vincennes, where his delusion was speedily lifted by Mr. Grote's family and friends.
