NATIVE READS FIRST MASS SUNDAY George Thomas Casey to Be Ordained to Roman Catholic Priesthood on Saturday at Scranton GEORGE T. CASEY Seminary, Baltimore, Md. Post Auxiliary to Elect George Thomas Casey of 32 Norman street, Pittstonw township, will be ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood on Saturday by Bishop Edward Walsh, of Maryknoll, at St.

Peter's Cathedral, Scranton, will officiate at his first solemn mass in his parish church of St. John the Evangelist, this city, on Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock. The young man is one of a class of twelve who will receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders on Saturday. Bishop Walsh will officiate owing to the illness of Most Rev. Thomas C.

O'Reilly, bishop of the Scranton Diocese. Monsignor P. J. Boland, pastor of St. John's Church, will sponsor for Father Casey at his ordination and will be arch priest at the young clergyman's first mass on the following day.

Others who will assist first solemn mass on Sunday are: Deacon, Rev. H. T. Kennedy; ub-deacon, Rev. E.

J. Melley; master of ceremonies. Rev. Barry. The sermon will be preached by Rev.

John Jay Gough, of the city, editor of The Catholic Light. There will be a reception at the Casey home, 32 Norman street, on Sunday evening between hours of 5 and 8 o'clock when the newly ordained priest will greet his friends. George T. Casey WAS born in Pittston township, being son of Mr. and Mrs.

John Casey. His parents moved Jersey City, N. soon after his birth and the first few of Father Casey's grade school education were in Jersey City. He finished his grammar school studies in Wilson school, Pittston township, after which he attended St. John's High School for four years and was graduated in 1929.

For two years thereafter Father Casey attended St.o Thomas College, Scranton. Injures Eye When he fell while playing about the yard of his home, Gene Lippi, two, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lippi of Battle avenue, suffered severe injuries of the eye. Griffith Funeral The funeral of Lester Griffith, 80, was held yesterday afternoon. Services were conducted at the home of his son, LeRoy Griffith, of 207 Mill street. Rev. Austin L. Prynn, new pastor of Broad Street E.

Church, officiated. Mrs. George Moser sang several favorite hymns of the deceased, Interment was in the cemetery at Newton, near Ransom. Pall bearers were Samuel 'Fulkerson, John Mayer, Fear and John Hughes. Mr.

Griffith died Friday at Rassom. was born in Clifford, Susquehanna County, and lived there 40 years before moving to Ransom. Besides his son, a daughter, Mrs. E. D.

Kilmer, of Carbondale; a sister, Mrs. James F. Stuart, of Scranton; five grandchildren, survive. Attended Auto Races Among Pittston folk who witnessed the automobile racing Sunday at Langhorne, near. Philadelphia, were Roy M.

Charles H. Bowman, immediate past president of Pittston Rotary, was a guest. Funeral The funeral of Mrs. Pearl Serafine was held yesterday morning with brief services at 9 o'clock in the family home, 410 Parsonage street, Hughestown, by Rev. Vincent Bana.

Requiem high mass was celebrated at 9:30 o'clock in St. Joseph's Church, Port Griffith.
