The agreement signed by the Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety will give the Indiana Department of Highways control over Sixth Street from East Market to North Street. The city will take control of North Street from Third to Sixth Street. The city also has agreed to eliminate parking on the west side of Sixth. Street for one-half block north of East Market Street. The state initially wanted to eliminate parking for the entire block on the west side of Sixth Street.

Deputy Mayor Francis Perrone negotiated the amendment to the agreement with the state. "There are several people who use the parking spaces on the north half of Sixth Street for parking while they are at the city building or at the Pharos-Tribune," he said. Mayor John Davis said a study will be made by the Logansport Police Department of the traffic along North Street after the highway is re-routed. "If we determine that there is less traffic on the street, it may be possible to eliminate the traffic signals at Fourth and Fifth Street," Davis said. North Street would then be through traffic from Sixth to Third, the same as High Street, Davis said.

The state took down the blinking traffic signal at Sixth Street, but said it would consider re-installing the traffic signal when the Ind. 25 re-routing is completed. State officials said two weeks ago that the exact timetable for the re-routing of the highway has not been established. Perrone reported that no timetable was discussed during his talks this week with the state. Davis said that when the city takes over North Street it will be the owner of the traffic signals.

The city owns traffic signals at Sixth and Hanna Street; 12th and Erie Avenue and 17th and Erie Avenue. "The state contends those traffic signals should be taken down," Davis said. The Logansport Thoroughfare Plan recommends the traffic signal at 12th and Erie Avenue be eliminated. Returns Continued From Page 1 a Lions Club caravan from Indiana that delivered fire trucks, ambulances and thousands of dollars worth of supplies to the Indian people of the Guatemalan hills. While in the Central American country, Hendrickson traveled to Tikal, the home of the oldest Mayan ruins excavated in Latin America.

His childhood dream came true. But that's not the happy ending for this story. While Hendrickson was in Guatemala two years ago, he worked at the Lions Club dental clinic, assisting dentists in treating hundreds of people who had never seen a dentist before. He also delivered a fire truck which, like several others, had been donated by area Lions Clubs. Today, nearly two years later, Hendrickson is leaving his home in Grass Creek to complete the twelve- day drive to Guatemala once again, this time to deliver an ambulance donated by members of the Grass Creek, Nyona Lake, Leiters Ford, Royal Center and Lucerne Lions clubs.

Hendrickson will be traveling once again as part of the annual Lions Club caravan to Guatemala, which will include 11 ambulances, a fire truck, a pick-up truck, and assorted medical supplies, clothing and toys. Lions members have made the trip from Indiana each of the past six years. While the journey along hazardous roads is a chore in itself, the Lions will do more than just drive to Esquipulas, an eastern Guatemalan town, to deliver the goods. Once they arrive, the group of 16 will set up an eyeglass clinic, and as many as 12,000 pairs of glasses will be distributed to the Guatemalans in the area by a team of optometrists, opticians, and opthal- mologists assisted by Lions Club members. Those that can't be of immediate use will be left with village doctors to distribute later.

Hendrickson was anxious to complete the 3,200 mile journey again, despite his previous decision not to return. "When I got back the first time, I said I'd never go back because it was too hard a trip," he said. "But when you see the amount of good you can do for the people, then you mellow out a little on the rough parts." In fact, it was nearly a year ago that Hendrickson began working to acquire the ambulance he will be driving to the mountian village. "Down there, an ordinary ambulance is a pick-up truck, and a deluxe ambulance is a pick-up truck with an army cot and a cap," he said. the ambulance that Hendrickson finally bought on behalf of the five Lions Clubs is one that can no longer be used in the United States because of its age and inability to meet certification requirements.

But to the Guatemalans, it is a luxury that Hendrickson knows will be appreciated. "They reacted wonderfully (two years ago)," he said. "They were really appreciative. We had to listen to speech after speech, and all in Spanish. We couldn't understand them, but we knew they were appreciative." Hendrickson and the other Lions, including club members from Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas and Minnesota, will return to Indianapolis Nov.
