AUTHORS PICKET FIRST NIGHTPLAY OF FOREIGN STAR New Tork, Jan. 22 While a group of rebellious playwrights picketed the outside of the theatre, a first night audience witnessed the Broadway debut of Elisabeth Berg-ner. Born In Vienna, her motion pictures barred by the Nazi government from Germany, this blonde, not-too-pretty actress comes to New York with the almost unanimous acclaim of being Europe's greatest star. The ovation she was given last night In the leading role of Margaret Kennedy's new play, "Escape Me Never," turned her introduction Into one of those stage events that is seen only when a Jeanne Eagles appears in "Rain" or a Katharine Cornell does Juliet. Inside seats and boxes bulging with a top-hatted and ermlned audience of celebrities, she was winning the unrestrained accolade of sophisticated New Yorkers.
