Lackey's companion, George Stose, also of Sikeston, fled but was later captured by a Dye. who has a reputation as a marksman and a boxer, killed Lackey instantly while the pair attempted to rob him at the point of drawn revolvers. Dye suspected the men were robbers, because they wore brand-new-clothing. A clothing store was robbed at Villa Ridge last night and Dye had been notified to watch for the thieves. Illinois Central detectives and the Sheriff said Stokes admitted he and Lackey had committed 17 burglaries and holdups in the last few-months.

Stokes said he helped in a $5000 payroll robbery in New-Mexico about a year and a half ago and was sentenced to prison, where he served one year. Al WIRING of all kinds; new. 4 rooms, with switches, S24. Riverside 0392J. Thousand flo.OOO.oo pavable to the Countv Treasurer of sai Cotintv.

In his proclamation the President said that such an increape in tariff was found to be necessary in an investigation conducted by the Tariff Commission, to equalize the cost of production in this country and in England. Fluorspar, which is used principally in the manufacture of steel, is imported into this country at present at a rate of about 120,000 short tons a year.
