WASHINGTON (AP) Several hundred printers and mailers have crossed the picket lines of striking pressmen's union at the Washington Post, A Post spokesman says. Post spokesman John Dower said Monday that five other unions have already reached agreement with the paper, but have held off signing and returning to work pending the mailers' and printers' actions. The printers had walked off In sympathy when the mailers went on strike Oct. 5. Both unlons are part of the International Typographical Union, which reportedly ended strike benefits for all Post employes Feb.

11. The mailers, who sort and bundle newspapers as they come off the presses, voted Sunday to accept a new contract. They crossed the picket lines Monday night. Members of the Post's unit of The Newspaper Guild are slated to meet Wednesday to discuss their next move in light of the return of mailers and printers. A majority of the Post's 843 Guild members repeatedly voted to continue to work during the strike, However, about 250 of photographers, reporters and advertising staffers walked off, according to leaders of the Rank and File Strike Support Committee, a group of Guild members honoring the pressmen's picket line.

The mailers and printers did not actually return to work Monday night. Union members said they obtained work schedules and new identification cards and are to start their first full day Tuesday. The pressmen and the photoengravers are the only unions that have not reached agreement with the Post. Dower said the photoengravers are scheduled to vote on a contract offer Tuesday morning.
