Details of a proposed $200,000 mod-ernazation program to make the state prison here escape proof were exlained by Barney Bernard, Hammond architect, before the regular monthly meeting of the penitentiary board of trustees. The plan includes construction of a new receiving building to replace a structure destroyed by fire last spring; a wing for the criminal insane building; a new modern unit for the regular hospital; repair and heightening of walls and remodeling of guard towers. The board did not announce definite action on the proposal. Funds for the improvements have been asked in the institution's request to the state legislatures budget committee.

The board granted paroles to 51 inmates of the prison, rejected eight cases and continued six. One reformatory prisoner was recommended for parole. Clean dai.t-ing Tuesday, Christmas night. Bernice Boone, who been with us seventeen weeks, will entertain. Snappy five piece orchestra.

St. James Hotel, Avilla. Homer Fisher, aged 45, former Or-land, man, was instantly killed in an Elkhart factory Thursday when a large emery wheel exploded and one of the flying pieces crushed him. Fisher was a blacksmith by-trade and at one time operated his own shop. Mary S.

Weber has been awarded a judgment of $3,602.50 in the DeKalb circuit court against Eli A. Farnham and a real estate mortgage was ordered foreclosed. The court also found for Walter J. Mondhank against the defendant Farnham in the sum of $2,012.72. ibut it was ruled that the latter lien is subordinate to that of the plaintiff.

Attorney H. C. Springer represents the plaintiff, while C. E. McClintock appeared for the de-! fendants.

I The Auburn State bank and the City National bank of Auburn, have secured a judgment of $659.30 in the DeKalb circuit court against Ruah L. Ladig and others and mortgage on lot 7, 'block 10, in i Thomas' South addition to Garrett i was ordered foreclosed. Capt. W. D.

Stump represents the plaintiffs. Thn defendants defaulted, excepting Clarence Hart, who appeared by i Edgar W. Atkinson. Mr. Hart holds a judgment lien or 4uu.ju againsi the real estate, but the court found this to be subordinate to the plain- tiff Hon jtitrsiien.

The divorce suit of Minnie Baker against Fabiane Oscar Baker has been venued from the DeKalb circuit court to the Noble circuit court. The motion for the change from the county was filed by the defendant. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hoyles and little daughter, Patricia, of Detroit, arrived Saturday to make a visit over Christmas day with Mr Hoyles' father, A.

W. Hoyles of South Franklin street. James J. Dirr of Garrett, executor of the will of the late Barbara Dirr, has applied to the DeKalb circuit court for authority to sell real estate in Steuben county and Fort Wayne. The total value is estimated at $3,000.

A judgment for the defendants has been entered in the DeKalb circuit court in the suit of Cregau Mall- ory against Wilbur Eating-er and Donald Wall in replevin. The case was venued here irom Steuben county. Henry M. Gump Friday filed a complaint in the DeKalb circuit court against Lois and Geo. E.

Armstrong on a note for $475 executed April 30, 1930, and payable in twelve months. A judgment of $750 is asked. Russel R. Ridenour i3 the plaintiff's attorney. Mrs.

Earl Peters' name has been added to the rapidly growing list of Kentucky "colonels," he having received his honorary commission from Gov. Ruby Laffoon, of Kentucky, as a Christmas gift. Mr. Peters is state director of the Federal Housing Administration in Indiana and although having hi3 office at Indianapolis, has his home at Fort Wayne. The complaint of Ester Woods against the iFort Wayne-Kalamazoo Bus for $15,000 damages for personal injuries has been venued from the Allen superior court to the DeKalb circuit court.

The was riding in a bus owned by the defendant when it left the highway twelve miles north of Hunter-town Nov. 8, 1933. She claims that her Injuries are permanent. Members of the Tri Kappa sorority enjoyed their annual Christmas party AVednesday evening at the home of Miss Ella Trimble on South Franklin street. A program consisting of reading, Christmas songs and three playlets, entitled "A Letter to Santa," "Shoes for Susie," and "Christmas Wish Fairy" proved very interesting. W. Rider of East King street. Miss Myra Montgomery, a teacher in the Garjett public schools, left Friday to spend the holidays with relatives at Bryant, Ind. Miss Beverly Johns, a student at Miami college. Oxford, arrived Friday to spend the holidays at her home on South Randolph street.

M. Skilling of Chicago, arrived Sunday to remain until Wednesday as the guests of Mrs. Mary Ann Skilling and family of East King street. A petition of Wm. F.

and Minnie May Putt of Garrett, for the adoption of a grandson, Wm. Ramon Putt, 3, was granted by Judge Endicott Saturday. The child is a son of Collis and Harriet Putt, who are now divorced, the former residing in Fort Wayne and the latter in Chicago. They consented to the adoption proceedings. The boy has been living with his grandparents.

Wm F. Putt is a Baltimore Ohio passenger engineer. A cross-complaint for a divorce was filed by the defendant Saturday in the DeKalb circuit court in the suit of Forrest Zimmerman against Virginia Zimmerman. The parlies, who live in Garrett, were married in October, 1933, and separated last October. The plaintiff says Mb wife was dissatisfied with their home and said she wouldn't live with him any longer.

The defendant states that her husband was cruel to her; that he ordered her to put her on a car and told her he didn't want her to return. She wants her maiden name, Virginia Ooodson, restored and her share of the value of their furniture. She is represented by Mounts Mountz and the plaintiff Guaranteed shoe dyeing any color. Miss Gladys Hartle of Chicago, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. JJel-bert Hartle of South Harrison steet. Mrs. Sadie Barnes of Kale island, Lake Wawasee, will spend Christmas day with her son, James Barnes, and family on South Walsh street.

a designer for the Auburn Automobile and Miss Elizabeth Whitten were married Saturday in a ceremony performed at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Whitten, at 406 So.uth Jackson street, Auburn.

The Rev. Hubert F. Craven of the Auburn Presbyterian church officiated. The bride's twin sister. Mrs.

Lenoir Brandon, was matron of honor and the groom was attended by BeiJljamin F. Harris III of Winnetka. 111. The bride wore a gown of royal blue rough crepe, tunic style, with a slight train. neck was shaped and was fastened with a large rhinestone clip.
