4 June 19, 1969ST. LOUIS POST'DISPATCH Todays Women J. I' 1 CAS iN1 A Friend of Lady Luck and enjoy themselves. "In London we had to join private clubs and then all we could do was sit back and watch," she said with a slight southern accent. "The guests never get to touch the cards.

There isn't even any music or food or drink in the casinos. Monte Carlo was different, more high class, but you need lots of money there." Mrs. Bayley grew up in Dallas where her father was a haberdasher. She studied business administration, music and English at Southern Methodist University. In 1936 she was married and she and her husband traveled for years writing a syndicated column in the Hearst papers, "Your Trip and Mine," before he bought the hotels that she now manages.

Mrs. Bayley does extensive charity work. After her husband's death she sransored a ing condition and counts receipts from crap tables three times a day. She supervises a staff of 500. Mrs.

Bayley said her casino has never had any big losses. One customer did come with a system that netted him $8000 three weekends in a row in the keno game. Another man recently took home $7000. "There are really big winners sometimes, and lots of small winner said Mrs. Bayley.

"But the big appeal of gambling seems to be the challenge more than the money." MRS. BALEY, 53 years old, loves the fast place of the business world. "She doesn't make snap judgments," said Miss Joan Rashbrook, her social secretary, "She goes on feeling and her in-tuition has saved her many times. She hasn't had any dealings with Howard Hughes but she By Connie Rosenbaum Of the Pott-Diipatch Staff IN THE MIDDLE of the inter- view, Mrs. Judy Bayley jumped up and rushed into the bar to watch a horse race on television.

Sitting on the edge of her seat, she cheered, clapped and shouted encouragement to her favorite in the Belmont Stakes. The only woman casino owner in Las Vegas, Nevada, likes any kind of gambling and she had her money riding on Rooney's Shield who ran fifth. "I took a 20-to-l long shot for the fun of it," said the tall Texan, who owns and operates the Hacienda Hotel and casino on the Strip. "Usually I don't bet much but today I placed a small amount. Playing for big money isn't much fun when you work with it every day." Earlier in the afternoon Mrs.

Bayley had stood beneatha plastic palm tree in the garish downstairs booth passing out pamphlets to potential customers, along with champagne and white travel bags with the name of her hotel and palomino trademark splashed in gold. She had come to St. Louis for a meeting of representatives of large corporations on providing recreation for their employes. "More and more firms are assuming this responsibility," she said as she viewed the swiftly rotating slide machine images of sleek blond bathing beauties, bright blue pools and sunny golf courses. "An employe works better if l.e is relaxed and well rested so many companies are scheduling junkets to Las Vegas for weekends." MRS.

BAYLEY spoke about her business with pride rather than making a hard-sell pitch. She took over the 600-room hotel and casino four years ago after her husband died of a heart attack. Since then she has expanded the facilities to in-elude convention centers and more rooms. She runs two smaller hotels in Fresno and In-dio, Calif. The casino work was more complicated than she had expected.

In the first few months she lost hundreds of dollars. She is active also with the National Council of Christians and Jews and the Cancer Society.

Another interest is antique jewelry. She scouts around tiny stores and European bazaars for old pieces, especially pins and bracelets to add to the family collection. She also loves meeting people. "President Nixon stayed at one of our hotels," she said. 'That's what makes it exciting.

In this business I'm always meeting so many interesting people." "Hughes and the big corporations are buying up many of the casinos and opening new ones. We are one of the few independent places left. Keeping help is hard, but many times our employes come back after leaving." Customers also return regularly and that's what makes the business fun, she said. Mrs. Bayley has gambled in England and in Monte Carlo and still thinks that Las Veeas is the best placi for people to relax Chicken Millionaires Abound in Nashville Mrs.

'in Nashville, Princess La Ha got a new title that amused her husband, Ambassador Osman of Morocco. By Betty Beale WASHINGTON, June 19 "IF YOU WANT to feel steeped in cash you should go to the Biggest bash in Nash! said an out of town guest after flying down to Nashville, for the Swan Ball.

Nashvillians confided that of the 500 hall subscribers assembled for the most social function of the year, at least 200 were A lot of them were old rich, because the cream of society is invited to this benefit that is always sold out two days after the are issued. But new money abounded and the old rich who were there are even richer because they have been making money like mad on fried chicken. The two men responsible for the fowl deed were there John Jay Hooker the good-looking 38-year-old Democrat who is almost certain to become Tennessee's next Governor, and Jack Massey, who came out of retirement to make Col. Sanders' Kentucky Fried Chicken a multimillion-dollar business. JOHN JAY, Who as president of Minnie Pearl Fried Chicken has made millionaires of 18 friends according to the Wall Street 'Journal, revealed that there were more than that.

"Forty-one of them have made a total of $38,000,000, he said. The skyrocketing businessman and Kennedy friend didn't wear full dress to the posh white tie party at Cheekwood, the estate Mrs. Walter Sharp donated to Tennessee for a Fine Arts Center. He wore dinner clothes with a slightly unruly black tie and buttoned black vest across which hung a heavy gold watch chain. His curly dark brown locks fell as usual over the forehead of his pixie face.

He is being called "the new Andrew Jackson." If he is elected Governor next year, his young brunette wife, Tish, will be the most beautiful First Lady in the country both as to figure and face and chic. And also perhaps the most in love. "I still think I'm married to the most devastating man in the country. I sometimes wonder how it happened to me," said the breathtaking Mrs. Hooker, who adores politics.

STARS at the ball were new Ambassador to Denmark Guilford Dudley and his chic wife Jane, who would be still more chic if her husband would let her put her long blond hair up the way she wants to. The Danes are going to be mystified by Jane, who left for Copenhagen last week with her husband. She sounds like a sweet, Southern-talking magnolia blossom; she dresses like a Paris fashion plate; and she has the organizational genius of Alfred P. Sloan. Wearing a low-cut pink evening gown appliqued with round mirrors and a gorgeous diamond and turquoise necklace, Mrs.

Dudley was summoned to the microphone in front of Peter Du-chins orchestra to receive the first Swani Award, the richly jeweled $12,000 swan designed and donated by David Webb to go to the person who has done the most for the arts. Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Nezha and her husband, Ambassador Osman of Morocco, flew down from Washington for the swish to-do, together with her lady in waiting and the Princess' two pet Yorkshire terriers. They were installed in the house of Mrs. "Teensy" Bradford, who had to be in Europe but briefed her maid before leaving on addressing the Princess as "Your Royal Highness." The maid's first effort had charm. "Mrs.

Highness, would you like breakfast at 9 o'clock?" she asked. The Moroccans, whose own servants kiss their hands when they walk into the house, Joved it. Mrs. Mesta, who also flew down to Nashville for some of that Southern hospitality and because she can't stand to miss a party, was introduced at the ball as "the only Perle to come out of her shell and make the world her oyster." 3SS Regularly H49.95 Wow Now you can buy that Color TV you have always wanted and save $50.95 during this outstanding sale!
