Rodgers's first scoring catch came late in the first half on a 43-yard strike from quarterback Jerry Tagge.

In the second half Rodgers took an Army punt on his own 49 and scampered to Army's 12, setting up Nebraska's second touchdown. Halfback Joe Orduna ran up the middle for 10 and then went over from two yards out. The second touchdown pass from Rodgers came late in the third period after Nebraska took the ball over on Army's 41. Tagge's scoring pass to Rodgers in the end zone covered 26 yards. It was the fourth loss in a row for Ben Schwartzwalder's Orangemen, torn by racial tension. Buffalos three quarters, building up a 34-7 lead before being replaced by Paul Arendt.

Arendt passed 17 yards for one touchdown in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Clifford Branch opened the second half with a 97-yard kickoff return for the Buffs. That matched the most field goals ever kicked by an Iowa State player in one season, and also was the longest in Iowa State history. The Iowa State defense ac-counted for the two longest touchdowns of the day.
