Suzuki's Visit Ends After Meeting With Reagan Economists WASHINGTON (UPI) -r Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki wrapped up a visit to the United States Saturday morning with talks with President Ronald Reagan's chief economic advisers. But in contrast to a glowing joint communique issued by Suzuki and Reagan after talks at the White House Friday, Treasury Secretary Donald T. Regan told reporters Saturday, "We find we have some problems." Emerging from Blair House, the official guest residence, Regan said the breakfast discussion with Suzuki was "very interesting." He said talk centered on trade problems and the budget deficits of both countries. The treasury secretary, who indicated that most of the difficulties centered on trade barriers, said, "We find we have a good approach to solving those problems." Budget Director David A. Stockman, Commerce Secretary Malcolm Baldrige, U.S.

Trade Representive Bill Brock and Murray L. Weidenbaum, chairman of the president's Council of Economic Advisers, also attended the breakfast. Reagan, spending the weekend at Camp David, completed his discussions with Suzuki Friday. Among their exchanges was a promise by Suzuki to bolster his nation's defense in face of a Soviet threat, and Reagan's thanks for reducing Japanese car exports to the United States. "(The) unshakable basis of friendship and mutual trust is the greatest treasure I take home from my visit to the United States," Suzuki said after Friday's meeting, In a.

joint communique, Suzuki and Reagan said they viewed with concern the Soviet Union's continued military buildup, aggression in Afghanistan and threat of an intervention in Poland which "would have a serious effect on world peace." On defense, the communique said Japan, "on its own initiative and in accordance with its Constitution and basic defense policy, will seek to make even greater efforts for improving its defense capabilities and for further alleviating the financial burden of U.S. forces in Japan." Japan has resisted U.S. pressure to increase its defense role, which now consumes less than 1 percent of the gross' national product, because of constitutional restraints and reluctance to divert funds from other programs at a time of budget deficit. In particular, the United States wants Japan to expand maritime and air surveillance and protection of the vital sea lanes surrounding the islands that comprise the nation. Afterwards, Suzuki told a National Press Club luncheon that Japan would be willing to accept expanded responsibility for the patrolling of up to 1,000 nautical miles of the major sea lanes to Japan and several hundred miles off its islands' perimeters.

Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger has been particularly critical of Tokyo, charging that "Japan's capability for defense at this point remains short of what is clearly required." The Reagan-Suzuki joint communique covered other points, including: The need to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons while the role of nuclear energy is expanded to meet increasing energy needs. Concern about "the rising pressure toward protectionism in many countries" and determination by the United States and Japan "to maintain and strengthen free and open trade principles." Agreement to expand relations with the People's Republic of China. A pledge "to promote the maintenance of peace on the Korean Peninsula." A ransom note was sent to the U.S.-owned grocery chain Wednesday, triggering an exhaustive search of the company's 91 stores in Britain.

Three glass jars poisoned with Paraquat were found in Birmingham, in central England, and at Formby and Southport, in the northwest. There is no known antidote to Paraquat, a common weedkiller that is easily obtained. A similar attack was made last year on the Safeway company in California. Paul Balleaux, 62, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for lacing bottles of sauce and dill pickles with cyanide and demanding a quantity of loose diamonds in exchange for identifying the poisoned goods. WARSAW, Poland (UPI) Solidarity leader Lech Walesa left Saturday on a weeklong trip to Japan, his second trip ever outside Poland.

"Japan is a fabulous 'country to me and I want to' see it," the union leader told reporters during an airport news conference. "We do not expect much from this trip." he said, adding, "We want to establish cooperation between Japanese 'and Polish plants in some areas." Walesa was accompanied by other leader Zbigniew Bujak, Bydgoszcz leader Jan Rulewski and newspaper editor Tadeusz Mazowiecki. Walesa has been out of Poland only once before; he went to Rome several months ago for an audience with his compatriot. Pope John Paul II On the eve of his departure for Japan, a potentially explosive incident erupted near Warsaw. The police post at the railway station in Otwock, south of the capital, was burned.

Despite a tense night, Walesa said crowd, and no other incidents occurred that night. The two youths who had been arrested were freed Friday morning, and the crowd dispersed. The case was considered closed, but on Friday afternoon, the building was set afire. The arson attack on the police station was the first crowd violence against the government since last summer's labor unrest, which led to unprecedented labor and social changes in the communist nation. solved.

The incident began Thursday night, when two youths, one of whom reportedly was a member of Solidarity, were arrested on suspicion of throwing stones at the police station while intoxicated.
