The Seguin Gazette-Enterprise Sunday, September 11, 1988 Page 3A Irreplaceable items lost in museum fire Casino Night TtiE GUADALUPE COUNTY Humane Society will hold Its second bhnual Casino Night at Sports West Saturday, Sept. 17, from 7-11 p.m. Persons attending will be able to purchase play tfioney for $10 which they will use to play several Las Vegas- Style games during the evening. Then at 11 p.m. items donated by local businesses will be auctioned off and players may use their play money to buy these items.

Some of the businesses contributing prizes recently presented them to Margarett Svatek (right), a member of the society's board of directors. These are just some of the items that will be available during the auction. More items are still being accepted and may be donated by calling Svatek at 379-6575 or Cathy Scales at Sports West at 372-1600. All proceeds from Casino Night will go to help the Humane Society build an animal shelter in Guadalupe COunty.

(Staff photo) GRAND PRAIRIE (AP) Losses from a fire that destroyed the Wax Museum of the Southwest may total $4 million, but many ruined items are irreplaceable, officials say. Among the items destroyed along with 300 wax figures in Friday's fire was the dress worn by Judge Sarah T. Hughes when she swore in Lyndon B.

Fire Marshal Elmer Aamodt, who said it appears the blaze was the result of an electrical wiring problem, said a museum employee spotted the blaze in the ceiling near the rear of the building and unsuccessfully tried to put it out with a handheld extinguisher. Museum visitor J.L. Williams said he was viewing "Dr. Blood's Theatre of Horrors" when he smellcd smoke.

"We thought it was part of the special effects, just something to scare you," he said. "We were joking about it. But the smoke kept getting greater, and we started walking toward the front and saw employees running." The museum was founded in Dallas' Fair Park in 1963 by W. Thomas Bolton, said Bill Olsen, a former marketing director at the museum. SWTSU offers study tour of Europe SAN MARCOS Southwest Texas Slate University students enrolled in one of three music studies courses this fall will be study- fftg in Europe this winter.

A fine arts humanities tour of historic sites in Europe has been approved by the Texas State University System Board of Regents for course credit for "Introduction to the Fine Arts" (Mu3313), a senior level i-hdependent studies course (Mu4351) or for graduate level work (Mu5317). Participation has been limited to the first 40 who qualify. tour will be conducted by Dr. Bert Necly, professor of music. Participants will leave for London Dec.

25 and will return to Texas Jan. 4. Ncely will conduct classes for tour participants on the SWT campus once a week for five weeks beginning Oct. 17. In the on-campus meetings, participants will discuss the various styles of artistic expression and how they are represented in the art, architecture, plays and the like that vyi'l be encountered on the European tour.
