Conzelman was persuaded by loard members of the outdoor theater to accept the role of manager of the Washington Senators baseball team in their jtrictly fictional victory over (he New York Yankees that the flay portrays. Former coach of the Washing-It n University football team and if the professional Chicago Cardinals, Conzelman made his Municipal Opera debut in 1940 s a football coach in "Good Hews." The role he will play this pimmer should have certain ilements of familiarity to Con-(elman. In 1944 he was assist-int to Donald Barnes, then president of the old St. Louis Browns, when the team won its Inly American League pennant. Conzelman was referred to in lome circles as the club's "secret weapon." By coincidence, Bie Browns won that year by beating the Yankees In the final leries of the season. MERCK AWARD WINNERS Richard H. Gerlach and Stu-art W. Weldman, seniors at Washington University, have been ' named winners of the Merck Awards for 1957, it was announced yesterday. They will receive copies of the Merck Index, an encyclopedia of chemicals and drugs. The awards are made annually by Meek and Co. to outstanding students in the fields of pharmacy, chemistry and chemical engineering.
