BROWN of North Plainfield, N.J., announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Dorothy Louise Brown, to John Butler, son of Mrs. Wood Butler, Parkmany 232 North McKnight road, Ladue, and Stuart M.

Butler of Ponte Vedra, Fla. The wedding will take place in June at Baton Rouge, the Browns' former home. Miss Brown is a graduate of Stephens College and, with a degree in home economes, of Iowa State College, Ames. She is now teaching home economics in high school at San Bernardino, Calif. Mr.

Butler, an Amherst College graduate in 1950 holds a master's and a Ph.D. degree from Iowa State. His fraternity is Psi Upsilon. He is liv ing in Appleton, where he is associated with the Institute of Paper Chemistry. Brothe of Mrs.

DR. AND MRS. 1 WILLIAM Woodcliffe HENRY road, LAIRD, Ladue, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Helen Finney Laird, to Richard Alan Hetlage. The wedding will take place June 24 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev.

Dr. Laird, the rector, officiating. Miss Laird was graduated in 1949 from Mary Institute and attended Sweet Briar (Va.) College. She is the sister of Miss Marion Murdoch Laird, a student at Hollins College, Roanoke, and of William Henry Laird IV, a student at Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va. Her grandparents are Mr.

and Mrs. Charles Randolph Kennon of Norwood, Powhatan county, and Mrs. William Henry Laird of Wilmington, and the late Rev. Mr. Laird.

The prospective bridegroom son of Mr. and Mrs. George Charles Hetlage, 474 Edgewood drive, Clayton, and the brother of Robert Owen Hetlage, who is now stationed with the Army at Camp Chaffee, Ark. Their grandparents, none of them living, were Mr. and Mrs.

Frank Hetlage and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Phillip Talbot of Stourbridge, England. Mr. Hetlage holds both an academic and a law degree Washington University, where he became a member of Theta Pi, social, and Phi Delta Phi, legal, fraternities.

Virginia Hovious, Charles P. Wieck Married in Utah marriage of Miss Virginia Catherine Hovious to Charles Paul Wieck took place Feb. 12 in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, Salt Lake City, Utah. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Louis Hovious, 4 Green road, Bellefontaine Neighbors. Mrs. Hovious went west for the ceremony accompanied by her other daughter, Miss Lois Ann Hovious, who served as her sister's only attendant. Also at the wedding were the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Leo J. Wieck, 9924 Bellefontaine road, Bellefontaine Neighbors; his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thirkhill (Mary Jane Wieck), Great, Falls, his sister, Carol Wieck, a student at Rosary College, Chicago, and his brother and sister, Stephen and Francele of St. Louis.

Mr. Thirkhill served as best man. The bride wore a blue wool three-piece ensemble complemented by a small white hat and white accessories. She carried white orchids and an heirloom lace handkerchief. Her sister was in a blue twopiece faille gown with which she wore red accessories.

Her flowers were peppermint striped carnations. After the ceremony a breakfast was given in the Gold Room of the Utah Hotel. The bride and bridegroom, who are now living in Great Falls, visited Sun Valley, Idaho, and San Francisco on their wedding trip. The former Miss Hovious was graduated from Visitation Academy and Fontbonne College where she majored in dietetics. Her husband, who attended The Priory School, Portsmouth, R.I., was graduated from Chaminade College High School.

McMahon recently completed two years' service with the Army in Korea. A September wedding is planned. Miss Bride -Elect MRS. LEWIS ARM THUR ADAMS, former St. Louisans who now live in Hinsdale, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Nancy Adams, to John Bertram Freeborn.

Miss Adams was graduated from Stephens College and from Washington University where she became a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Mr. Freeborn, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Freeborn of Dunedin, is an alumnus of The Citadel, Charleston, S.C., and Georgia Institute of Technology.

He received his master's degree from the University of Illinois. The prospective bridegroom is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. To Hear Guest Speaker. The Tuesday Literary Club will meet at the Artists' Guild Tuesday at 2 p.m., with the president, Mrs. Charles Probst, presiding.

The program, "Religions of the World as Forecasters of the Times," will be presented by Dr. Huston Smith, associate professor of philosophy at Washington University. After the program, tea will be served by Mrs. John W. Geppert and Mrs.
