Decide, probably tomorrow, whether retail beef ceilings can be rolled back in keeping with lower prices now being paid farmers for live cattle. He said he expects final recommendations from his staff today as to whether this is feasible.

2. Issue orders suspending controls on men's, boys' and women's and misses clothing. At least bne of these orders is due to be announced tonight. The only exception in these suspensions probably will be children's and infant's wear. Woods' successor if a successor is named probably will face immediately the necessity of deciding on sharp additional cuts, in OPS personnel, now numbering around 5800.

May Close Regional Offices. One price official said these reductions in force, due to cuts in appropriations, may entail abolishment of the 13 OPS regional offices throughout the country. This would mean that the approximately 60 district offices would operate separately and report directly to Washington. Woods himself told a Congressional committee last week the agency will barely have enough funds to operate until controls expire next April 30. Sources close to the Administration told a reporter the President may decide to name one of the top OPS aides to serve as act-ting price boss until the new Republican administration takes over Jan.

20. This was before May-bank's comment last night. One source said that Joseph H. Freehill, deputy OPS director, is a likely choice. Jr.
