2, 1996, at Barnes Hospital after suffering from lymphoma. He was 63. Professor Takayama, of Carbondale, had held the Vandeveer Professorship since 1983 at SIU-Carbondale. He had been an economics professor at other universities since the early 1960s. He was born in Yokohama, Japan, his bachelor's degree in economics at the International Christian University in Tokyo.

Professor Takayama received a doctorate in economics at the University of Rochester in New York and a second doctorate from Hitotsubahi University in Tokyo. In 1974, Professor Takayama received the best book of the year award in economics in Japan. In 1991, he Takayama shared the Daeyang Prize in Korea with one of his students for his work in economics. A private funeral service was held Jan. 4 at the Barnes Hospital chapel.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Touch of Nature Hall near the SIUC campus. Buchanan was involved in the InRoads honors program. Virgil McKnight; Hospital Administrator Virgil K. McKnight, a former administrator of the old Homer G. Phillips Hospital, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 1996) at Bethes Memorial Home in Kirkwood after a long illness.

He was 92. Mr. McKnight was administrator at Homer G. Phillips for 32 years before he retired in 1973. He was also a former director for many years of what is now the Annie Malone Children Family Service Center.

Born and reared in St. Louis, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois at Champai A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5017 Northland Avenue. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Austin A.

Myers; Was Schnucks Executive Harold C. Myers, a retired executive at Schnuck Markets died Monday (Jan. 29, 1996) at Christian Hospital Northeast in north St. Louis County after a brief illness. He was 81 and lived in Florissant.

Mr. Myers was vice president of the dairy division at Schnucks from the 1970s until he retired in 1982. He had worked at Schnucks for 30 years in various executive positions. He had also worked at the old Tom Boy, Kroger and Bettendorf Rapps supermarkets. The funeral service and burial will be private.

Among the survivors are his wife of 61 years, Mary Myers; a daughter, JoAnn Orzell of Chesterfield; a sister, Lois Gove of Glendale, and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Kidney Foundation. Norman E. Grubbs, 75; Retired Engraver Norman Eugene Grubbs a retired Post-Dispatch employee, died Sunday (Jan. 28, 1996) of complications from diabetes at his home in west St.

Louis County. He was 75. Mr. Grubbs was an engraver at the newspaper from 1973 until he retired in 1989. He had also worked at the old Globe-Democrat.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Gerber Funeral Chapel, 23 West Lockwood Avenue, Webster Groves.
