LOUIS POST-DISPATCH OBITUARIES Patricia Palmeri; Owned Tax Service In Fairview Heights Monsignor Eugene Chromoga; Spread Church's Byzantine Rite Among the survivors are her husband, Larry; two daughters, Angela Palmeri of Fairview Heights and Laura Slusarski of Chicago; her parents, Benjamin and Freda Patricia A. Palmeri, owner of Pat Palmeri's Tax Services in Fairview Heights for the past 19 years, died Sunday Ouly 31, 1994) at Jewish Hospital after a short illness. She was 53 and lived in Fairview Heights. Palmeri, a certified accountant and tax preparer, also was president of the board of directors of the Fairview Heights Chamber of Commerce.

was a vice president of the Independent Accountants Association of Illinois and a board member of the American Cancer Society. She also was a member of the financial board of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Fairview Heights. Mrs. Palmeri won the first award for outstanding business and community service of the Fair-view Heights Chamber of Commerce last September. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Thursday at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 9950 Bunkum Road in Fairview Heights. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Belleville. Louis; two sisters, Gerry L. Cornett and Stephanie D. Sabo, both of Fairview Heights; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Monsignor Alphonse Westhoff; Priest, Pastor For 52 Years Monsignor Eugene A. Chromoga, a former St.

Louisan who helped spread the Byzantine Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in the western United States, died Sunday Only 31, 1994) in Flint, after a heart attack. He was 66. On June 5, Monsignor Chromoga celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Flushing, where he had been pastor since 1976. He was in the first ordination class of the newly organized Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Sts.

Cyril and Methodius in Pittsburgh and was ordained there in 1954, saying his first divine liturgy on June 6 of that year at the old St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Church at 1120 Dolman Street in St. Louis, where he was baptized and confirmed. The church then marked the western boundary of Byzantine Catholic parishes in the United States. After serving a year as vice chancellor of the Diocese of he became editor of Byzantine Catholic World, the first Byzantine Rite weekly newspaper in this country.

In October 1956 he was sent to Los Angeles and established the first Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic parish on the West Coast, St. Mary's, now the cathedral church of the Byzantine Eparch (Diocese) of Van Nuys. He later helped form parishes in Fon-tana, San Diego, San Mateo and Anaheim in southern California and another in Phoenix, Ariz. In 1960, he was named the first dean of the Western States Deanery. In 1969 he was appointed the first chancellor of the newly created par-chy of Parma at Parma, Ohio, near Cleveland, and served as rector of the Cathedral of St.

John the Baptist there. That same year he was elevated to monsignor by Pope Paul VI and the following year, 1970, to mitered archpriest, a Byzantine rank between monsignor and bishop. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Lockwood and Joy avenues, Webster Groves. Among survivors are a sister, Dorothy Ruzycki of Webster Groves, and a brother, Robert Chromoga of Lemay.

He was the Kirkwood Citizen of the Year for 1961. When he left St. Peter's in 1972, the Kirkwood City Council held a special meeting to honor him on his service to the city park board, the Kirkwood School District and the In 1972, he went to St. Getrude's as pastor. He retired in 1980.

In the 1930s, '40s and '50s he worked with Monsignor Martin B. Hellriegel, whose Holy Cross parish in Baden was noted for its customized services in German. Those customized services prefigured the liturgical renewal movement ushered in by the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s. He was a consultant and later executive secretary of the Archdiocese of St. Louis' Commission on Sacred Liturgy, and in 1986 he received the commission's Hellriegel-Burbach Award.

In the 1950s and '60s, Monsignor Westoff served on the archdiocesan marriage tribunal as both a synodal judge and a pro-synodal examiner. Monsignor Alphonse E. Westhoff, a priest and pastor here for 52 years and a leader in liturgical renewal, died Sunday Quly 31, 1994) of infirmities at St. John's Mercy Medical Center. He was 91.

Monsignor Westhoff, who grew up in O'Fallon, i was a priest at two area parishes: St. Peter's "in Kirkwood and St. Gertrude's at Krakow, in "Franklin County. rt After completing his studies at Kenrick Seminary here, he was ordained by Archbishop John J. 7, Glennon.

His first assignment was St. Peter's in 1928, and he stayed for the next 44 years. He was named pastor in 1942 and led the building of the new church, at 243 West Argonne Drive, in 1953. -Jfe was elevated to the rank of monsignor in 1957. Kirkwood Rotary Club.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. at St. Peter's Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St.
