Senior Leslie Warner thanked her friend Kim Kroenke for being a "guardian angel." "When 1 came to gym class sobbing about my trigonometry test, you gently consoled me and gave me hope." Mark Locascio found it difficult to single out one person who made Benet special because "there's a special type of unity here." "I'm going to talk about everyone at Benet," Locascio said.

"What we've created here is very important." Joanna Ybe recalled the trials of being a new student at Benet. "Freshman year is the toughest year, especially for 1 had a horrible said. But thanks to friend Michaela Carpio, Ybe survived. "It's good to feel I know someone in my life that 1 can trust completely," she said. Courtney Kohout mingled tears and laughter in her speech.

"Look at us now, we're seniors," she said. Although she's headed for Notre Dame University, Kohout promised "Look at these friendships as God's concrete example of love in the world." The Rev. Jude Randall to "visit next year." "It will be weird going to school withoutyou guys," she said. Instead of honoring a fellow student, Kohout concentrated on "the man with the stern face and the red my religion teacher and my friend." That person was Principal Ernie Stark, who convinced the lonely first- year student not to transfer to Downers Grove South High School. "Mr.

Stark, I thank you so much. Without you, 1 would have gone to another school," Kohout said. "In my freshman year, you went beyond your duties to love and care for me." Before the service ended, the Rev. Jude Randall, Benet's president, told students to cherish the relationships they formed at school. "Look at these friendships," he said, "as God's concrete example of love in the world."
