on UPHOLDS VIET NAM POLICY President Lyndon B. Johnson has followed a course in South Viet Nam that the late President John F. Kennedy probably would have approved, Theodore C. Sorensen said here today. Sorensen, whe was special counsel to President Kennedy, said that Johnson and Kennedy operated between two extremes.

One the one hand they were committed not to run out on the South Vamese and, on the other, not to precipitate a general Asian land war. "Mr. Kennedy was opposed to forces to Nam," committing American, land Sorensen said, "but conditions have changed since then." Sorensen, who was interviewed at the St. Louis Press Club, spoke last night at St. Louis University and was to speak later today on the Edwardsville campus of Southern Illinois University.

He discussed facets of his new book, "Kennedy," in which he tells about his 11 years as an adviser to the assassinated President. "I made no pretense that this would be a neutral account of Mr. Kennedy's career," Sorensen would be impossible to be neutral after being with him intimately for 11 years and to have been involved in the discussions that led to his decisions." Sorensen said that he did make an effort to be as objective about the course of events as Mr. Kennedy would have been. "I tried to point out his errors by the account of the Bay of Pigs invasion, the delay in reacting Berlin wall and the handling of some civil rights matters," he said.

Sorensen said that he attempted to meet three tests in writing the book. He said he tried to avoid writing anything unfair, inaccurate or in bad taste, to write anything that would compromise the national security, or to write anything that would impair the effectiveness of anyone in office now. "If I were writing this book 50 years from now I could be more candid about individuals," he said. "I could present more facts involving public security. RIOT AT BELGIAN CHURCH OVER LANGUAGE AT MASS LE ZOUTE, Belgium, Oct. 11 (AP)-Police used tear gas yesterday to break up a riot over what language the priest should use in his sermon at a Roman Catholic church. For the last two Sundays, French -speaking Belgians walked out of the Dominican church in fashionable Le Zoute because the priest used only Flemish. Flemish-speaking Belgians tried to prevent them from leaving, but police cleared a way. Yesterday, 300 Flemish demonstrators massed outside the church.

Police used tear gas and clubs to disperse them. One demonstrator was taken to a hospital and five were arrested. The priest finally celebrated Mass, but there was no sermon either in French or Flemish. SENDING AMER TO PARIS ON OFFICIAL VISIT 1965, New York Times News Service CAIRO, Oct. il President Gamal Abdel Nasser will send his top deputy, first vice president Abdel Hakim Amer, to France this week for the first top-level official visit between the two countries since their clash in 1956 over Suez. The United Arab Republic looks on the Amer visit as an important opportunity for opening a new window to the West while its relations with West Germany and Britain are at an impasse and its ties with the United States are clouded by uncertainty. French officials here regard the visit as a sign that relations between Cairo and Paris have returned to normal after a decade of difficulties. But they are cautious about the kind of commitments, either political or economic, that Paris can make to Cairo at this time.

Both President Charles de and Premier Georges Pompidou will meet with Marshal Amer for what French officials here describe as "general talks."
