I 4-k 1 w- 0 Central 2925-27 Locust St. Foment 39 0 prcssionists, untianimeled cubistic futurists, high and low browists and plain artists, from the stable studded precincts of Greenwich Village to the delicatessen crested eminences of the Bronx, elbowed their way into the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel last night to be present at the opening of the fourth annual exhibition of the terrifically independent Society of Independent Artists.

John Sloan, the well known freehand draughtsman who happens to be president of the emancipated artists, explained to the Post-Dispatch reporter, whose ignorance of modern art is co-extensive with the horizon and is bounded only- by the zodiac, that the purpose of the society is the holding each year of an exhibition to which all may contribute, and in which no distinction shall be made among the exhibitors. There is no jury and there are no prizes. No picture is too good to be hung. If anybody wants a picture hung in the exhibition, all he has to do is to hand Independent Artist Walker Tacli, treasurer of the society, a $10 bill or a pale blue money order for that sum, and that makes him a darned independent artist.
