By United Press International The Notre Dame athletic "board has voted to accept an invitation to meet Alabama in the Orange Bowl on New Year's night, it was learned Tuesday.

The Notre Dame squad and coaching staff headed by Ara Parseghian previously had approved acceptance of the bid, and the board vote was taken on Friday. The University of Alabama announced formal acceptance of the invitation last Saturday, setting the stage for a rematch of the 1973 Sugar Bowl game in which Notre Dame defeated Alabama, 24-23. PRO BASKETBALL The Indiana Pacers signed 3-year veteran Johnny Neumann, a 6-6 guard-forward who played with Memphis and Utah before being traded to Virginia last season. Neumann, who was placed on waivers by the Squires, has a pro career average of 17 points a game. PRO HOCKEY Indianapolis has had the fourth largest single-game crowd so far this season in the World Hockey association.
